This post about sun protective clothing is in collaboration with Little Leaves Sun Protective Clothing. All opinions are my own.
We just returned from the beach and although I was sad to come home, the weather here in Tennessee has been just as beautiful as it was in Myrtle Beach. It’s sunny, HOT, and just all around beautiful so we’ve been spending a lot of time outside. My family is definitely one that loves to be outside on warm days, but it takes a lot of planning to get outside safely. You see, I take sun safety very seriously because I’m a Skin Cancer Survivor. In case you don’t know my story, I was diagnosed with Melanoma just 6 months after getting married to my husband. It was a complete shock and one of the scariest experiences of my life. I’m happy to report that I’ve had no recurrences after my surgery and I’ve been cancer-free for 6 years!
With that history, it’s no surprise that sun protection is at the forefront of my mind for myself, but also for my daughters, when we spend time outside. There’s hardly a time that we go outside that we don’t have on sunscreen, but putting sunscreen on two active girls can have it’s drawbacks…
Little Leaves was founded by a Mom and Dad, both who are doctors, to provide their children sun protection without chemicals. That’s right, the adorable shirts that the girls are wearing in the picture above are providing an SPF of 50+ and blocking 98% of the sun’s harmful UV rays with absolutely no chemicals. In my mind what sets Little Leaves sun protective clothing apart is that their shirts and clothing aren’t made for water. Sure, they can get wet, but they aren’t swimming shirts. They’re super soft and comfortable for every day wear.
One reason the comfort factor is so important to the founders, as well as to parents like me, is the comfort and softness of the shirts. Sophia deals with eczema which often flares up on the inside of her elbows and I’ve found that rash guard type shirts don’t seem to be as kind to her sensitive skin as the Little Leaves shirt is.
In addition to the softness and comfort, the Little Leaves sun protective clothing is CUTE! I was so excited to see such earth friendly designs, all of which are printed with eco-friendly water-based inks. Although the shirts are long-sleeve, they are light, cool, and breathable thanks to their unique bamboo blends.
Sun protection should be the first thing you think about when you take your children outside, no matter what the weather or temperature. While it’s important to always apply sunblock, especially on faces, having convenient options like Little Leaves sun protection clothing makes those decisions even easier and beneficial to both you and your children.
Little Leaves sun protective clothing can be purchased from their website at http://www.littleleaves.com. They have clothing options for boys and girls, as well as adults. The shirts are very reasonably priced when you consider they offer sun protection wash after wash without chemicals.
