When I was younger, I was always that girl at sleepovers who woke up at 7 am just waiting for all my friends to wake up. I was an early to bed, early to rise teenager and still am to this day. Except, now I have kids and I work from home and I don’t always get in bed quite as early as I’d like to, which makes getting more sleep more of a challenge now. Luckily, I’ve developed some great habits lately that have really helped me rest better when I finally do get to turn in for the night and today I’m excited to share them with you!
Essential oils are all the rage right now and can be used for almost anything, if you believe a quick Pinterest search. One of my favorite essential oils is Lavender Oil. It has many uses, but my favorite benefits of this scent are relaxation, balance and comfort. I choose to use Nature’s Truth Lavender Oil in a couple of ways – the first is diffusing.
The diffuser allows the Lavender Oil to be dispersed throughout the room and continues to do so for up to 8 hours – perfect timing for a night’s sleep. The scent of Lavender Oil encourages comfort and relaxation, which makes it the perfect oil to diffuse at night.
The second way I use Nature’s Truth Lavender Oil is by rubbing it on my feet! I put a few drops of the paraben-free essential oil in a roller bottle, along with a carrier oil like Fractionated Coconut Oil, and then rub it on my feet as soon as I get into bed!
Not only does it make my feet smell like lovely flowers, the oil help me feel more relaxed.
It’s a tip that you’ll see almost all experts give – turn off your electronics, that includes cell phones, tablets, and even televisions at least an hour before you lay down. Now, while this tip is definitely one that will help you get more sleep, it’s honestly just not feasible for me. I write… on a blog… from home… with kids. The best time for me to work is when my kids are sleeping, which means at night. Those hours are precious so it’s definitely hard for me to unplug for an entire hour before bed, but if you can – do it!
Before you turn off all those power switches, leave at least one on for white noise. Hubby and I enjoy having a fan on during the Summer and another perk to using a diffuser is most make a light noise while running.
Supplement with Melatonin
My Mom actually introduced me to the idea of using Melatonin a few months ago and I’m so glad she did. Melatonin is a hormone that helps to regulate sleep cycles and promotes optimal rest and relaxation.*
Our bodies already produce the hormone, but when those levels get low, sleep can be broken and restless. By supplementing with Nature’s Truth Melatonin quick dissolve tabs I feel more rested and relaxed due to maintaining regular sleep cycles.*
I love that Nature’s Truth® Melatonin comes in a yummy berry flavored quick dissolving tab – that way I can leave the bottle right by my bed and take it as I’m getting ready to retire for the night. You can find Nature’s Truth supplements, including the Lavender Oil and Melatonin that I use, at your local Rite Aid in the Vitamins and Supplements aisle.
Nature’s Truth products are also available at other retailers such as Walgreens, Amazon, and Target.com.
Enjoy a Warm Cup of Tea
Any warm drink will do, but enjoying a warm beverage before bed often helps you get more sleep and fall asleep faster. I think the routine of simply drinking a warm cup of tea before bed gets my body relaxed and makes it realize that it’s time to go to bed.
