Later this month I’ll celebrate my 7th birthday. I might have glowing skin these days, but my skincare routine hasn’t made me look that young! Instead, I’m celebrating my cancer-free birthday. I was diagnosed with Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, on April 30th in 2009. I was a newlywed, a business owner, a daughter, and 26 years old and never, ever expected to hear the words “You have cancer”. I’ve always had a fair complexion, freckles, and did the unthinkable in my teens… enjoyed using tanning beds! And although I can’t go back and change my ways then, I can make big changes now in my life, my girls’ lives, and hopefully with some others who hear my story.
Once I was diagnosed, I had a lot of appointments, of course. But even after the melanoma was removed, I still had quite a few more doctor visits than I had ever had before my diagnosis. For the first year, I visited my Dermatologist every 3 months and then every 6 months after the first year through year five. I’ve had a lot of biopsies since that time, but never a recurrence, which I’m so thankful for! But in all those Dermatologist appointments, I got to ask so many questions about quality skincare products, how to prevent skin cancer for myself and my girls, and what products I should be buying and using for my fair complexion.
My Dermatologist continually recommended CeraVe, which is why I started using their moisturizer and Foaming Cleanser 7 years ago and why I continue to today. CeraVe products are non-irritating and fragrance-free and most of their products are also non-comedogenic. They feel light, work so well for my sensitive skin, and I feel like my skin is so healthy it glows.
CeraVe also helps to replenish the vital ceramides that healthy skin needs, which is one reason that I use it, but the main reason I use it, other than it being recommended to me, is all about convenience and price. As Moms, we don’t always have the time, or budget, for ourselves that we might have had at another point in our lives. I absolutely love the fact that I can purchase CeraVe at Walmart while I’m doing my grocery shopping.
During my latest Walmart trip, I noticed that some of my favorite products like the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser, and the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream are on Rollback for $9.97 until 5/9/2016, which made it the perfect time to stock up my bathroom cabinet. I was also very excited to find CeraVe Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 50, which is a new product to me, and perfect for my fair complexion.
On days when I know I’m going to be inside the majority of the day, I choose to use the CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion as it works great as a daily moisturizer, with the added bonus of a SPF 30, providing broad spectrum sun protection at the same time.
If you know me, you know I’m all about keeping things simple and my skincare routine is no different. Although I use a variety of CeraVe products, there are 3 that are a part of my daily routine now and I can say that I feel like my skin is as healthy as it’s ever been.
The first step in my routine is CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. After all, your face isn’t all that should glow! It’s a body cream that moisturizes and helps restore your skin’s own protective barrier. It’s my go-to body moisturizer and I love that it comes in a tub, which makes it so easy and fast to apply. I love to put it on right after my shower.
The second step in my fair complexion skincare routine is cleansing with a gentle cleanser. The Hydrating Cleanser is a great option anytime, but especially in the winter for me as my skin feels more dry, as it moisturizes and softens your skin, while removing dirt and makeup at the same time.
Don’t fall into the thought that sunscreen is for summer because it’s the 3rd step to get glowing skin for ladies [and gents] with fair complexion. The last thing I want is a sunburn so the CeraVe Sunscreen Face Lotion is my favorite defense against the sun. My Dermatologist has always recommended sunscreens that contain Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide and this face lotion with SPF 50 has both! It’s a lightweight sunscreen that protects your skin without feeling heavy, and at the same time, provides broad spectrum coverage and contains vital ceramides.
You know your skin feels good when you voluntarily take no-makeup bathroom selfies! But in all seriousness, I’ve never felt better about the health of my skin and I’m embracing my fair complexion!
