A Spoonful of Sugar: DIY Tea Towel

While doing some craft shopping at Michael’s the other day, I spotted a new-to-me product from one of my favorite crafty brands – Sharpie.  Listen, I love all things Sharpie and when you spot a Sharpie Paint Marker, well, your crafty side stands at attention!  My mind started reeling – what could I do with this mega marker pen?!  It turns out, it was more like what could I not do…

The Sharpie Marker Pens come in both an Oil Based Marker and a Water Base.  The Oil base being great for Wood and Glass projects and the Water base being great for Paper and Windows.  So really, infinite possibilities with the numerous ways these paint markers can be used!

I had a project in mind to make some super fun, creative Tea Towels.  I had a few Polder’s Old World Market Wooden Spoons in my “Gifting Box” that I really wanted to gift to some special people in my life, but giving a wooden spoon, even though they’re as beautiful as these, seemed a bit odd to me, which is what inspired my “a spoonful of Sugar.” Tea Towel and Spoon combination!

The girls also needed a fun new decorative towel in their bathroom, so I bought a duo pack of Tea Towels and grabbed some fun crafting supplies while I was at Michael’s, along with my Sharpie Paint Pens.

I’m kind of totally obsessed with burlap right now and thought it would make a perfect addition to both towels.  Those cute little crochet flowers were an impulse buy in the Michael’s checkout line and were just the perfect addition to the girls’ decorative hand towel.

Apparently I was craving some sugar during these planning stages!  Both DIY tea towel projects were sugar inspired.  My girls are sweet as sugar, so that was an obvious one.  I used the purple Sharpie Paint Marker [oil based] for the “nice.” and an ultra-fine point Sharpie for “sugar and spice and everything”.

Both of my towels turned out perfectly.  I kept the simple is more attitude but totally may end up adding some adorable big, gold polka dots on my sugar towel!  I think these will be my new “go-to” for housewarming presents because they were really affordable, but give the handmade feel and character that everyone loves to receive!
