My 3 Step Natural Skincare Routine

If you’ve read more than 2 posts on this blog, you’ll know I like things simple and easy. I have two young girls, work full-time from home, and have a house and husband to take care of in the middle of all the other duties, so I just don’t have the luxury of tons of extra time. And I admit, I haven’t always taken the best care of my skin.

I wouldn’t call myself old, but I’m not in my 20’s anymore, so the term skincare is definitely evolving a bit to me. Skincare routines in the past used to mean controlling pimples and breakouts and now they often revolve around preventing dark spots, wrinkles, and oh yeah… apparently still breakouts.

Skincare Problem Areas

A few weeks ago I had the rare [in my life] opportunity to get a facial and my forehead was extremely broken out. So much so that I actually brought it up with the esthetician because it was causing me a lot of problems and I couldn’t seem to get it cleared up.

She informed me that most of the time forehead breakouts were caused by stress. At the time, we had just finished a big move, the week before had sold our house, and I was traveling by myself for the first time in a long time… I was definitely experiencing stress.

She seemed to think when the stress was gone, my breakouts would be too.

Well, that wasn’t going to fly with me. I wanted to try to treat my skincare issue – but easily… and natural! For those reasons, it’s no surprise that I went straight to the Burt’s Bees collection when I decided to do something about it. I’m a huge fan of Burt’s Bees products and already had a few in my bathroom cabinet. I had started using the Clarifying Toner back in the winter and I always have a tube of lip balm in my pocket.

But on a recent trip to Target, I spotted a brand new Burt’s Bees product – Cleansing Oil with Coconut and Argan Oils. Now, let me tell you – I have never heard of cleaning your face with oil, let alone wanted to try it.

I kept thinking “Aren’t you supposed to get oil off your face, not put it on your face?!” But I decided to give it a try because I was getting desperate to find something to clear up my forehead breakouts – and the fact that I love Burt’s Bees and their natural skincare line.

Cleansing Oil Skincare Routine

I know what you’re wondering, because it’s exactly what I wondered about it too… “Doesn’t it make your skin oily?!” Nope! It’s quite amazing to me, actually. The Coconut Oil is loaded with Vitamin E that helps to naturally clean your skin, without overdrying or leaving an oily residue, which leaves behind soft, healthy-looking skin.

It almost feels as if I’ve already used moisturizer, just after washing my face. It removes dirt and make-up naturally, doesn’t clog pores, and doesn’t contain parabens, phthalates, SLS or petrolatum.

It couldn’t be more simple to use. A pump of the oil to clean, dry hands then I massage the oil on my dry face. Then, I wet my hands and gently massage the oil onto my face. A thorough rinse and pat dry and my face is left soft and smooth with no oily feeling at all.

Since I’ve been having issues with breakouts, I’ve alternated the 2nd step in my natural skincare routine between the Pore Refining Scrub and Clarifying Toner.

The last step of my new, natural skincare routine is also a new one for me. I’ve been using the same moisturizer for a few years and haven’t really given any thoughts to it – until I see pictures of myself and see some lines starting to form around my eyes. Granted, I’ll take it – it means I smile a lot, right?!

But I don’t want to get too many, so choosing the Renewal Firming Day Lotion with an SPF of 30, makes perfect sense.

First off, this day lotion smells wonderful! Not only is it helping to firm my skin, but with the added benefit of 30 SPF, that’s one less step when I’m planning to leave the house.

So, how’s it going? I’ve been using this natural skincare routine for about 2 weeks now. I wasn’t expecting miraculous results, especially thinking that a large part of my breakouts may be due to stress, but I was hoping to see some results.

The results I have seen are enough to make this girl, who never takes a selfie, embrace it with a bathroom selfie!

I can really tell a difference, which is pretty amazing to me in just 2 weeks. My skin seems to have a different glow and my forehead has way less irritations. I’m still rocking some laugh lines, but I’ll take those – but I’ll admit, I wouldn’t mind to see a few fade a bit as I continue this natural skincare routine.

Have you tried any of the products in the Burt’s Bees collection? What’s your favorite?

I only use the Burt's Bees skin care products on my face. My routine is simple -- wash my face twice daily (morning and night) with deep cleaning cream with soap bark chamomile, calming toner with witch hazel and rose, renewal firming eye cream, and then end with sensitive moisturizing cream. Sunday's and Thursdays I exfoliate in the morning with deep pore scrub with peach and willow bark followed by the same aforementioned process. At night, I use the night cream for sensitive skin.

Thank you for sharing this! I'm addicted to Burt's bees lip balm but I've never tried their facial products. I tend to break out frequently so I was wary of the oil cleansing, but I think I'll give it a try!
