If there’s one thing my girls love, it’s ice cream. If there’s one thing they love even more, it’s frozen yogurt – and I agree. We’re guilty of making a trip to the Frozen Yogurt shops at least weekly.

But what if I told you that you could make DIY Frozen Yogurt at home – no machine required?! That’s what we’ve been doing and let me tell you, it’s quite delicious… and fun!

So for the times in between Frozen Yogurt trips, we can now make our own that’s delicious and totally fun, even though we don’t have an ice cream machine. Want to know our secret? It’s a ball!

YayLabs Ball

An ice cream ball, that is. Take a look at this YayLabs Softshell Ice Cream Ball. It has 2 sides with 2 chambers, a soft shell, and will make delicious DIY frozen yogurt while you’re having a ball.

On one side of the ice cream ball you put your ingredients – which for us on this night was about half a container of Organic French Vanilla Yogurt, 1 tsp of Mint Extract, and 1/4 cup of mini chocolate chips. On the other side, you put in lots of ice [those chambers are larger than they look] and top off with about 1/4 cup of rock salt.

How does the yogurt actually become frozen yogurt?

With a little fun, of course!

Ice Cream Ball Collage

This is where the YayLabs Softshell Ice Cream Ball really becomes fun. It encourages your kiddos to get active [but not too active, no throwing, dropping, bouncing, or kicking the ball], get excited about their upcoming treat, and get social.

I could see some fun games with our ice cream ball as the girls get older “Tell something about your day when the ball gets to you”, it could really be a fun party conversation starter for older kids.

Frozen Yogurt at Home

Unfortunately, my girls are so enthralled with the idea that ice cream is being made inside a ball, that they just want to hold it and look at it, which causes ice cream to be made slowly, people. I need my frozen yogurt, stat! So we decided on a game of hot potato which helps things move a little faster.

Scrap Sides Ice Cream Ball

We’ve made different types of ice cream and frozen yogurt now and I have to share this tip, which isn’t actually a tip since YayLabs instructs you to do so, but don’t overlook this instruction…

At the 15 minute mark, scrape the freezing yogurt off the sides of the chamber.

Our first attempt at making ice cream in our YayLabs Softshell Ice Cream Ball was a frozen mess because we overlooked this very important step. It’s also super exciting to see that frozen yogurt taking shape [and a great time to take a quick taste test to keep the excitement going].
