An Elf on the Shelf goodbye is so important, I even mentioned it in my tips for an Elf on the Shelf Arrival. Although I’m definitely more on the lazy side with my Elf on the Shelf ideas, I like to have plans to make it all go smoother.
So planning our elf’s goodbye is one that I definitely do in advance! One of the easiest things to include is an Elf on the Shelf Goodbye Letter. You can find quite a few different versions to print, but I really love this Elf on the Shelf Christmas Eve letter printable the most.

An elf goodbye letter is not the only way for your elf to make a scene and to say goodbye on Christmas Eve. Here are some other fun ideas that I’ve found that you can try!

Another great idea is to incorporate balloons in your goodbye! There are lots of Elf on the Shelf balloon ideas, but a couple that would be great for Christmas Eve are a hot air balloon or stuffing your elf in a balloon!
How simple but how cute! A paper airplane with North Pole Express makes the perfect transportation for your elf to head back to the North Pole on Christmas Eve.
I love this idea of your family’s elf bringing reindeer food for the kiddos to spread on Christmas Eve. We have done this in the past and used oatmeal and glitter for the reindeer food!
This elf goodbye is adorable and definitely makes a statement! I thought it was just too cute!

I shared our Elf on the Shelf breakfast tradition and I might just have to start including these fun Santa pancakes. I feel like kids couldn't be too sad about their elf leaving with these on their plate!
This is a paid version of an Elf on the Shelf Goodbye Letter, but it's a great last minute option because it is editable! Just put in your child's name, elf's name - and print for a Christmas Eve goodbye!
