If you’ve seen my past few posts featuring Moreaya’s First Birthday, you’ve probably seen a glimpse of my Goldfish Marshmallow Pops.

Goldfish Marshmallow Pops

Since I wasn’t responsible for the Birthday Cake, I wanted to make a little treat that would match the theme, but still be relatively easy. This one is! Marshmallow Pops are so customizable too. I made some Mickey Mouse themed ones for Sophia’s Mickey Mouse 2nd Birthday Party.

Goldfish Marshmallow Pops

These go perfect with a Beach Party theme, Under the Sea theme… anything you can think of!

Goldfish Marshmallow Pops Ingredients

The ingredients are extremely simple:

Large Marshmallows, Candy Melts {thank goodness my store had blue so I didn’t have to tint them!}, Sucker Sticks, Graham Crackers or Graham Cracker Crumbs, Wax Paper, and Goldfish!

Candy Melts in Double Boiler

I have a small double boiler that I used for the Candy Melts. I melted 1 1/2 bags for 25 Marshmallow Pops, but 1 bag would have been plenty.

Marshmallows

A little tip is to put the marshmallows in the freezer for just a few minutes. This makes them not move around so much and stay still on your sticks!

I DIY-ed my Graham Cracker crumbs. I had one lonely pack of graham crackers, so I crushed them to make my sand!

Marshmallow in Candy Melts

I added just a bit of shortening to the candy melts to make it a smoother, thinner consistency. I still struggled with excess on the marshmallow. I gently shook off as much as I could.

Then dip the bottom of the marshmallow in the graham cracker crumbs to make your sand. Immediately stick on a Goldfish and place on your wax paper to harden!

VOILA!

Beach Party Dessert Table

I served the Goldfish Marshmallow Pops alongside Moreaya’s Birthday Cake, but they could easily be served as a stand alone dessert. They’re yummy!

After using sucker sticks this time and paper straws on the Mickey Mouse Marshmallow Pops, I would definitely say that I prefer using the Paper Straws. They are stronger and larger, so it’s easier to make them stand up straighter. Although, if you use the Paper Straws, be sure to make a small X with a knife where your straw will go, so it’s easier to put it in the marshmallow when it’s a little frozen.

Ingredients

  • Large Marshmallows
  • Blue Candy Melts
  • Graham Crackers or Graham Cracker Crumbs
  • Goldfish Crackers
  • Lollipop Sticks
  • Wax Paper

Instructions

  1. Melt your candy melts in a double boiler - 1 bag of candy melts is enough for 25 Marshmallow Pops. While your candy melts are melting, put the marshmallows in the freezer for just a few minutes - this makes them not move around so much and stay still on your sticks!
  2. I DIY-ed my Graham Cracker crumbs. I had one lonely pack of graham crackers, so I crushed them to make my sand.
  3. When your marshmallows are cold and each have a lollipop stick, dip and roll in the blue candy melts. Gently shake off the excess candy melts, then dip the bottom of the marshmallow in the graham cracker crumbs to make your sand.
  4. Immediately stick on a Goldfish and place on your wax paper to harden! Enjoy!

Do you freeze the stick in the marshmallows or do you put the sticks after

Freeze the marshmallow first without the stick. It makes the stick go in easier. 🙂

I am always looking for fun things to do with my grandchildren and I know they will like this. It also is easy enough for them to do after I melt and coat the marshmallows.

They’re a thicker type of paper – work very well! I order them on Etsy. The shop that I ordered from for this party is: http://www.etsy.com/shop/pinklemonadeparty
