If you have young children and are in the market for a new vacuum cleaner, I’ve compiled a list of the top 8 features that you’ll definitely want to look for when you’re shopping.
Although there are more than 8, and maybe less if you’re not as picky as me, these 8 will get you a great vacuum that you can count on to suck up those day old Cheerios that you don’t want your baby dog eating off the floor!
Brand {Reliability and Warranty}
Although my decision on products isn’t based solely on brand names, they do effect my choices. When I see a brand name that I recognize – especially in the vacuum cleaner world – I definitely notice it more.
Brand name is not only important because of reliability, but you want a vacuum cleaner that is going to last. Brands are recognizable because they’ve been around for a long time which is a good thing.
Lightweight
Honestly, before I had kids I vacuumed once a week usually. If my vacuum was heavy, so be it. I was only doing it once a week, so I thought of it as an arm workout.
But now, oh now. I’m vacuuming at least every other day – sometimes more than once a day. Please tell me I’m not alone in hating a broom and dust pan. I’d much rather drag out my vacuum to suck up those sandwich crumbs.
So, with that said – a lightweight vacuum makes all the difference when you’re having to pull it out of the closet more than once a week.
Or picking it up to maneuver around all the toys in the floor!
Suction Power – Can it Pick Up Peas?
Speaking of crackers and most importantly peas. Why peas? Because I can’t stand to bend over and pick something up while I’m vacuuming. Call it lazy, call it stubbornness, but my vacuum should be able to pick it up, right!?
It will – if you get a good one!
Easy Assembly
I’m a SAHM, so when we get new cleaning products, I’m usually the lovely one that gets to use them and most often the one that gets to assemble them also!
Well, sometimes with a little help. And believe me, if you have two little helpers like I do at times, it can make the easiest of assemblies a little more difficult.
Luckily, assembling our new Eureka AirSpeed ONE Vacuum was pretty easy!
Quiet
When you’re a busy Mom {working outside of or only inside the home}, sometimes the best time to actually get cleaning done is when there’s no one running around ready to destroy it again.
A quiet vacuum cleaner is a great feature when you’re sneaking in cleaning during nap times!
Long Cord
Amen.
Washable Filter
Call it green, call it cheap – really call it both. When you use a vacuum as much as you do with two little ones running through the house – you definitely don’t want to waste money on buying replacement filters or bags.
Price Point
There are quite a few vacuum cleaners on the market at all different price points.
Choosing a vacuum cleaner is honestly a personal decision. Although my 8 Key Features might not exactly mesh with your favorite eight, they are what I need and want in a vacuum. Although I’m a little demanding, I was able to find all 8 features in one vacuum on the shelves at Walmart that didn’t break the bank.
Eureka’s AirSpeed ONE Vacuum Cleaner just happened to be on Rollback at Walmart.
For the key features, compared to other models sitting alongside it on the shelves, I simply couldn’t pass up the deal.

Cleaning is fun and using the best cleaning product can make it a lot more fun. As a product tester, I have had access to different vacuum cleaners and hands-on experience with them. My personal favorite is Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away Vacuum. One of the best vacuums on the market. Excellent filtration system for homes with allergy sufferers.

I think having a washable filter is super underrated in a vacuum. I love the convenience of it, plus it makes my home feel cleaner when I vacuum after cleaning it. Without cleaning the filter I don't feel like vacuuming helps at all.
