It’s a chore that most of us, especially Moms, do almost daily. Lucky for me, laundry is a chore that I really kind of enjoy? Yeah, I said that as a question because people usually look at me like I have 2 heads when I say it. It’s true, though, stick me in the Laundry Room all day and I’ll be happy… make me clean 1 shower, and you’re in for it!
Perhaps one reason that I enjoy doing laundry is because I really have perfected my routine. I take pride in the fact that I’ve made some easy green steps with this chore and today I’m sharing with you 5 super easy ways to green your laundry routine!
Wash in Cold Water
Not only will you save on your energy bill, you’ll notice that your clothes will come out just as clean when you wash in cold water! Try it – you might just be surprised if you’ve never tried to switch to cold water only when washing!
Line Dry
Clotheslines are no longer a thing of the past, in fact, many people are now adding them to the back yards! I love to dry laundry outside as much as I can because not only do I save energy – I harness the sun’s power of stain removal too!
Ditch the Dryer Sheets
If you don’t always line dry or don’t have the option to, you can successfully green your drying routine too – by ditching dryer sheets and using wool dryer balls.
Not only do wool dryer balls help reduce static like dryer sheets, but can actually reduce your drying time by 10-25%! If you miss added aroma of dryer sheets, it’s easy to add a lovely scent to your wool dryer balls – just add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oils and your laundry will have never smelled better!
Use a Green Laundry Detergent like Simple Green

Upgrade to an High Efficiency Washer
I totally realize that not many people can just up and say “I think I’ll buy a new washer today!”, but when it is time to replace your old washer, definitely consider an HE machine. They use less water, less detergent, and clean superb. I’ve had an HE washer for over 10 years now and would never go back.
Speaking of upgrading your washing machine, check out the details below for how you can upgrade your washer NOW… thanks to Simple Green!
I have fun in the Laundry Room – I really do and Sophia and I took a selfie just to prove it!
Ok, I admit, the selfie was actually the most fun part of this Laundry Day!

Great post on this everyday task of laundry. We just moved over to a "he" washer and can tell the difference already.
Have you ever tried to use baking soda in the wash?

I made my own laundry soap follow a green cleaning recipe. I can't say I love it, but I use it for things like cleaning rags. I didn't realize those dryer balls would actually reduce dry time. I'll have to try that. Thanks!

We have an HE machine and use dryer balls. I even converted my MIL and 2 SIL's to dryer balls this past Christmas! Love them!

I have dryer balls all over the house, we keep forgetting to toss them down the stairs, but my little girl loves to go on a hunt for them too. I'm always telling folks about using dryer balls, I even have my mother in law converted! Don't have an HE machine just yet, it's still in the works...
