Forget the flowers and box of chocolates, check out these 10 unique Valentine Day date ideas and reignite the spark with your significant other.
Hubby and I recently decided to stop buying each other presents for our anniversary and instead take a trip. We have been enjoying this tradition for a couple of years now and it’s made me realize just how much more we both like experiences rather than gifts. That idea inspired this post – I hope you can find a great date idea to spend with your special someone too!
DIY a gift
The sky is the limit for DIY gifts, but some of my favorites include: Personalized Picture Frame, Painted Coffee Mug, a Valentine’s Gift Basket full of their favorite things, and Valentine’s Day couple coupons. These are really great ways to show your love because it shows you care enough to take the time to make them!
If you can’t give up the idea of giving flowers on Valentine’s Day, think beyond the typical roses. If your wife loves Gerbera Daisies, order a beautiful bouquet of her favorite flower. You can even choose potted flowers that can be planted so they can be enjoyed beyond Valentine’s Day.
Picnic Time ‘Heart’ Picnic BasketSkip going out for dinner and enjoy a candlelit dinner at home
If you’re a couple that often dines out for dinner, try changing up the routine. Plan a dinner by candlelight or a picnic by the fireplace at home. Even if you plan to enjoy take out instead of preparing dinner at home, it will be a nice change from your dining out routine. You’ll be able to enjoy a nice, quiet dinner and conversation with your Valentine.
Say I love you with customized candy
Conversation Hearts aren’t the only candies that can convey a message. You can customize m&m’s with your own Valentine’s message and even wrap your favorite candy bars with printable wrappers.
Did you know they even sell customized candy kits on Amazon so you can customize on your own?! These are so fun!
Plan a date day
Date nights of a dinner and a movie are romantic, but often typical. This is the perfect unique Valentines Day date idea to me and something hubby and I always enjoy doing – perhaps because we’re too old to stay up for a late night movie! Get creative with your ideas – maybe try an activity that you used to enjoy together but haven’t had the chance to do in awhile – a ballroom dancing lesson, go for a hike, or visit a local art exhibit.
What I Love About YouWrite Love Notes
Handwritten notes go a long way and they can be even more fun when they’re hidden in places that will surprise your spouse. The notes can have a theme such as “15 Reasons I fell in love with you” or “10 of my favorite memories” and be hidden around the house, in your spouse’s lunchbox or briefcase, and in their car for a day full of thoughtfulness.
Send an electronic love note
Send your valentine a romantic text. Whether it’s a cute Valentine video or a unique sketch, there are some really fun apps and electronic ways to share your love.
Book a photography session
Some of my favorite memories are candid photography sessions and they are often the photographs that you see displayed throughout my house. Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to book a session with a local photographer to capture this season of your life. Don’t have time to book a session? Head to the mall for an fun, old-school photo booth date!
Bake sweet treats
It’s always said the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to bake sweet treats for your sweetheart.
Create a Scavenger Hunt
You can get as creative as you want with these unique ideas for Valentine’s Day. A scavenger hunt around the house, with fun little clues that lead to your gift can be a great activity or you can even take the scavenger hunt outside of your home and around town with memories and stops at some of your favorite places to visit as a couple.
When February 14th rolls around, it can be tempting to grab a box of chocolates off the store shelf or a dozen roses near the checkout line, but don’t do it. Although chocolate and roses are always nice, spending time with one another and making memories will last far longer! No matter how you decide to spend Valentine’s Day, go out of your way to remind your spouse why they fell in love with you in the first place.
