7 Vinegar Uses in the Kitchen

This post sharing 7 vinegar uses in the Kitchen was inspired by a collaboration with Four Monks Cleaning Vinegar. All opinions and text are my own.

Vinegar Uses in Kitchen

When it comes to the Kitchen, vinegar is more than just a condiment – it’s actually a fantastic cleaner and it really shines when it comes to the Kitchen. I’ve already shared how I use vinegar to clean my bathrooms, tidying up after pets, and even in our cars, but this time I’m sharing all the vinegar uses that you’ll find when it comes to the most visited room in your home! In the kitchen, vinegar has some amazing uses and when you’re looking to go with a more eco-friendly way to clean, there’s really no other choice. Whether it’s cleaning your sink or killing gnats, I know you’ll love these ways to use vinegar in the kitchen.

Scrub the Sink

Mix vinegar with baking soda to create a paste and rub it all over your kitchen sink. Allow to set for 5 to 10 minutes before gently scrubbing and rinsing. The mixture will remove soap scum and other residues that have dulled the look of the metal. Do this once a month to keep your kitchen sink looking shiny.

Sanitize Countertops

Vinegar can be a great everyday cleaner for your kitchen countertops and it doesn’t get any easier than using Four Monks Cleaning Vinegar as it already comes in it’s own spray bottle. But beware, if you have countertops made of marble or granite, you’ll want to skip this vinegar use in the kitchen as it can damage your stone.

Kill Gnats

We all know that apple cider vinegar can be placed in a jar to trap gnats, but it’s even more important to kill gnats at the source. It’s easy –  Pour baking soda down your sink drains along with vinegar before heading to bed. The mixture will bubble up and smother any gnats living in the sink drain. Do not run water in the sink until the next day.

Get Rid of Sticker Residue

If you’re like me, you love to reuse storage containers like spaghetti sauce mason jars. Unfortunately, the product label and residue is usually really hard to remove. Saturate the area with vinegar and allow to set for 5 to 10 seconds before scrubbing the area. The vinegar will break down the residue so that it’s easier to remove.

Clean the Microwave

One of my favorite vinegar uses in the kitchen is a hack for cleaning the microwave easy and fast. Place a mug or glass bowl with about a cup of vinegar in the microwave and set it for 2-3 minutes. Allow the mixture to set for 5 minutes before removing. Then, dip a cloth in the mixture and use it to wipe down the inside of the microwave.

You’ll be amazed at how easy cleaning your microwave is now! Heating the vinegar and water will have loosened the residue and allow you to easily clean away the mess.

Make Your Dishes Sparkly

Tired of spending money on rinse aid and tired of the amount of chemicals that you read in those ingredient lists? You can use vinegar instead of rinse aid to make your dishes shine. This will save you a substantial amount of money and it’s also a natural product that you don’t have to worry about using.

Also, you can use a similar trick like I do in the microwave to clean your dishwasher. Simply put a bowl full of vinegar on the top rack of your dishwasher and run a cycle with your empty dishwasher. Obviously, you don’t want to do this too often as you may feel like it’s a waste of water, but it’s a great Spring cleaning task to get your dishwasher really clean. It helps your appliance run more efficiently and removes odors and hard water buildup.

Remove Mineral Buildup in Your Coffeemaker

If your coffeemaker seems to be running slow and your coffee tastes strange, you may have mineral build up. Luckily, it’s easy to tackle with vinegar uses in the kitchen like this one! I like to run a full cycle with vinegar [no coffee, of course], then let the machine sit for about an hour without rinsing. Follow this up with two more runs of water to remove any lingering vinegar taste and you’ll have a sparkly clean, mineral build up-free, coffee maker! I like to do this about once a season to keep our coffeemakers running smoothly.

As you can see, vinegar isn’t just for greens in my kitchen! You can use vinegar to clean everything – even the kitchen sink. Ditch those chemicals you’ve been using to clean your home and use something natural, starting with these great vinegar uses in the kitchen.
