With the Memorial Day holiday coming up, so many of us are going to be spending time with our family at the pool, splashing and having a good time. iPlay wants us to be aware, though, of the possibility of Recreational Water Illnesses and to have fun safely.

Recreational water illnesses(RWIs) are caused by germs spread by ingesting contaminated water in swimming pools, hot tubs, water parks, water play areas, lakes, rivers, etc. Basically, anywhere that you might come in contact with water that someone else has been in, there’s a chance of catching an RWI.

These germs can cause a number of infections, including but not limited to gastrointestinal, skin, and respiratory infections.

Especially susceptible to RWIs are children, pregnant women, and those with compromised immune systems. Contrary to the popular belief that chlorine kills all germs immediately, some bacteria can take several days to be eliminated by chlorine. That’s why it’s so important for everyone to take preventative measures to help keep bacteria and other germs out of the swimming hole to begin with.

That’s why iPlay created a swim diaper for babies that is snug-fitting in the legs and waist, with three protective layers to help keep accidents out of the water and keep babies safe. Unlike regular cloth diapers, reusable swim diapers are a type of cloth diaper that doesn’t absorb water, but instead lets liquids pass through. But that snug fit is important because we don’t want solids passing through!

My little girl was sent an iPlay reusable swim diaper and matching Rashguard in a sweet lavender toucan print so we could test out just how a reusable swim diaper works.

First, I have to say that the idea of making clothing with SPF protection is genius. I can’t tell you the number of times that I’ve gotten sunburned through my top. Plus, so many people forget to apply sunscreen to their little ones’ chests and backs when they know that a shirt or bathing suit will cover them. i Play Baby Wear’s swim wear is all SPF 50+, providing excellent sun protection by blocking out 97.5-99% of UV rays.

It’s a ruffle butt swim diaper. You can’t get any cuter than that. But the fact that it snaps on the side so I’m not trying to pull off a soaked swim diaper that will just roll up and cause way too much headache? That is what impressed me the most.

The iplay swim diaper boasts three layers of protection:

  1. a waterproof layer to prevent leaks (in or out)
  2. an absorbent layer to soak up any accidents
  3. a lightweight wicking layer to pull wetness away from baby’s skin

I was really happy with the material that both the swim diaper and rash guard are made of. I hate how most bathing suits are nearly impossible to remove when they’re wet – always sticking and rolling – not exactly a fun time with an infant or toddler. The i Play rashguard top is incredibly soft and made of 82% nylon, 18% elastine, and is really easy to put on or take off (even wet!)

If you plan on going to any water source with your little one this summer, I’d definitely recommend investing in a good reusable swim diaper, like this one from iPlay. They’re a lot more eco-friendly, wallet-friendly, and so stinkin’ cute!

You can find a range of iPlay swim diapers in amazing prints and colors for both boys and girls, as well as matching rash guard tops, and even bathing suits with built-in reusable swim diapers, on Amazon.com.
