The Top Three Uses For Beads

The world that we all reside on provides us with many different natural materials that we can use to our benefit. For example, there are plants that can be used for foods or medicines, water that can be used for basic hydration or to assist us with providing life to our plants, and then there are stones.

Stones are also extremely useful to the world, they have many different uses. While some of these materials have been harvested to make metal, there are other types of stones that are used to create artistic accessories. In fact, due to the advancements in technology, we are now able to create imitation stones, which are commonly referred to as beads. The imitation stones, or beads, also have a wide array of different uses, and are popular all around the world.

Beads can be used to help create jewelry accessories, as an additional clothing accessory, or as some type of decorative ornament. Beads are commonly found in a lot of the modern day jewelry that women and men adorn today. A lot of necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings are made from this material.

When used in clothing, beads will add a little bit of contrast to your outfit. They add more valuable to the attire that you are adorning, making it appear elegant and decadent. Aside from being used to create clothing, beads are also commonly being used to create household ornaments.

Household ornaments such as door knobs, bird feeders, and other types of crafts can be made from beads. Beads are extremely popular with women and girls, as opposed to guys. The reason being is because women desire to be surrounded by pretty things, beads fall into this category.

These are only a couple of the uses for beads, there are so many different things that you can do with them, it is difficult to name all of the uses that these materials have. Regardless of what you choose to use your beads for, there is one thing that will be evident about your creation, it will be absolutely stunning. Now, with beadsbarn.com you can get top quality beads and other jewelry making supplies.

Prams, Pushchairs and Strollers, Oh My!

Depending on where you live, you will probably use varying methods of transportation for your baby. You may not be surprised to know that many countries have completely different ways to carry or move their babies; some regions even have varying names for exactly the same product.

Contrary to popular opinion the stroller is a relatively new invention, and is still used mainly in the west. Traditional methods used to transport babies include slings, which have been traced back as far as the pharaohs, and cradleboards, a method used by Native Americans. Both are widely used
throughout developing countries, and have recently been introduced into western culture in the form of baby wrap carriers that allow a mother to carry a child cradled against her chest, while leaving the hands free.

The stroller, or pram as it was originally called, was invented by William Kent in England during the 18th century. From the initial concept more modern inventions came about, including buggies and tandem pushchairs for twins or siblings, which hailed the popularity of the compact stroller. The pram, a term generally used in the UK, is still used for new born babies, as it allows babies to lie on their backs, and the mother to keep an eye on her pride and joy. A pushchair on the other hand is a forward facing stroller that is generally used when a baby is slightly older. In America we know these to be strollers, but in the UK the terms are separated to denote two different products. A cradleboard, although not used widely in the west, is a Native American baby carrier used to keep babies secure and comfortable. Not unlike swaddling, which has become increasingly popular over the last few years, a cradleboard involves wrapping up your baby in order to carry them on your back. This allows mothers to work with their children on their backs.

With so many different types of transportation, babies almost have more ways of getting about than we do! Not to mention many modern strollers with detachable car seats, and more bells and whistles than a luxury car. A little perspective can be thought provoking sometimes – how do you prefer to carry your little ones?

November Group Sponsor Spotlight

I haven’t had the chance to spotlight the fabulous SEBG Sponsors {that can be found on your left} in awhile because they’ve all been sticking around for quite some time!  I love promoting these great businesses that have so kindly decided to share their products and sites with all of you!   There are a couple of Veterans in the line-up, as well as a few newbies that I’m excited about!  Today, I’m going to gush about them introduce you to all of them individually!

Three Happy Trees

This lovely little Etsy Shop is ran by a wonderful WAHM, Mandi. She was the first to introduce me to the wool side of cloth diapering and I’m happy to report that her Wool Soakers are still my favorite to put on Sophia… and I’ve recently invested in a few more for her, including the cutest pair of Cashmere Longies you’ve ever seen!  You’ll see more from Mandi and Three Happy Trees during the “New Year, New Babies, New Mommies of 2” Event!

If you love Wool or haven’t tried it yet, I would really recommend Three Happy Trees soakers. They are incredibly affordable, but don’t let the price fool you. These are wonderful creations and work perfectly for daytime and especially nighttime diaper covers {which is why I love wool so much!}.

It’s Starting to Smell Like…

Christmas!

I may be just a bit guilty of starting to bake a few batches of Christmas cookies early… just to start feeling even more in the Holiday spirit.   There is just something about the Holiday scents that take me back to all of the Christmases’ with family as I was growing up.  While we were visiting Dollywood this past weekend, I loved the scents of all the live Christmas trees around, the aroma of the freshly made glazed Pecans, and even the wafts of Hot Chocolate that made even the air feel warmer!

Although I’m a sucker for the sweet smells of Christmas, there is just something about the natural scents that come along with the Holiday.  We are definitely considering using a real Christmas tree after the girls get a bit older, as I would just love to have the fresh pine scent in our house during the Winter season.  There’s just something about bringing those lovely outdoor scents inside!

If you’re familiar with any type of green cleaning agents, I know you’ve heard of Seventh Generation.  They have created a new line of dish liquids featuring natural scents from real lemons, clementines and lavender. Seventh Generation’s Natural Dish Liquid scents come from fields not factories, and honor the careful hands that cultivated them.  So, for a scent lover like me, this line is definitely something I’m looking forward to trying!

Seventh Generation is the nation’s leading brand of household and personal care products that help protect human health and the environment. Established in 1988, the Burlington, Vermont based company remains an independent, privately-held company distributing products to natural food stores, supermarkets, mass merchants, and online retailers across the United States and Canada.

Not only has Seventh Generation created this lovely new line of dish soaps, they want to share the origins of the natural scents with you!  The Nature Makes Perfect Scents is a sweepstakes where you can enter to win a trip for two to one of the regions where lemons, clementines and lavender grow!  Where?  Oh, the inspiration came from France, Italy, and Vermont {Seventh Generation’s headquarters} and they want to send you there!  What are you waiting for?!  Go enter now!

Although I’m in love with the Holiday scents right now, citrus aromas are definitely some of my favorite… and what you’ll find if you look at my collection of hand soaps.  I’m excited to try this new line of Dish Soaps from Seventh Generation and let the aromas take me off to a faraway land while I’m scrubbing the grime away!

I wrote this blog post while participating in the SocialMoms and Seventh Generation blogging program, for a gift card worth $50. For more information on how you can participate, click here.

Back When I Was In School…

Yeah, I don’t feel old enough to say that, but technically I guess I am.  It’s been 7 years since I graduated from college.  My plans to go back are still up in the air… I really, really want to earn a Masters Degree in Accounting, but I’m nervous as can be about going back.  I know things have changed in that amount of time and money is a huge issue with our family, being a one-income household.

Although, I ran across a service that helps with some of the costs of going back to school.  Have you ever heard of the option of being able to rent textbooks?  I hadn’t until I found CampusBookRentals.com.  When I was in school, I always tried to save some money by buying used books, either online or in the school bookstore.  But even then, when you went to go sell them back, you always lost money compared to how much you paid for the used books in the first place.

Textbook rentals seem to me, an obvious choice for me in the future and should be for you too… if you’re looking to save money while going back to college, or attending for the first time.

What are the perks of renting rather than buying college textbooks?

  • Save 40-90% off the cost of buying books new, at bookstore prices!
  • Free Shipping {ding, ding, ding!} Both Ways.  Shipping books, especially, costs so much money usually!  This is a huge bonus for me.
  • 30 Day Risk Free Returns – Just in case you drop a class.
  • Treat the books as your own – Highlight in them, make notes… pass that class!
  • Flexible Rental Periods – So helpful if you’re taking a Summer Class or your class isn’t the typical Semester-length.
  • Super Easy Rental Program – You simply type in the book you need {by Title, Author, or ISBN}, choose the book and the amount of time you need to rent and pay!  Super simple.
  • CampusBookRentals.com donates a portion of proceeds from each book that is rented to Operation Smile.  Don’t know about Operation Smile?

Operation Smile, an out of this world, awesome organization, that performs life changing cleft lip surgeries on children whose families could not otherwise afford it. The long term Improvement in quality of life for the children that receive these surgeries is almost incomprehensible.

So, when I do make the commitment of going back and getting my Masters, which I will do one of these days… I will definitely be renting my textbooks now that I know about this awesome service!

I’m ready for a Vacation!

Ok, so maybe it’s only been a little over a month since we went on a mini-vacation to the Smokies, but I’m ready for another!

I guess it’s the impending arrival of Miss Moreaya and me thinking that I’ll never be able to travel with 2 children.  We just now got the traveling with 1 kid down pat and now we’re getting ready to add another to the mix!  Don’t get me wrong, I’m super excited, but I’m a tad bit nervous… which has set in this need for adventure!

So, since I’m 7 months pregnant, we probably won’t be taking a cross-country trip, although I have heard that you can find some great cheap flights to Los Angeles.  We’re thinking of finding something a bit more local, although warming up in sunny California would be really nice after this cold, rainy weather in east Tennessee.

Rob and I’s third Wedding Anniversary is coming up in a few weeks and we’re trying to decide if we’re going to go on a short overnight trip, with Sophia, or not.  It’s basically a money thing, but isn’t it always?  Our Anniversary lands just a month before Christmas and now that we have 2 baby girls {or will soon}, we’ve found we definitely have different priorities.  I’m so glad that we took the amazing Honeymoon to Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora when we did because we would never sacrifice that money for our family now, but we made such wonderful memories!  We have yet to go on a mini vacation to celebrate our Anniversary and we’re thinking that this just might be the year we do it!

Some ideas that we’ve thrown around: Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC, Gatlinburg in the Smoky Mountains, or stay home and enjoy a quiet weekend… one of which we’re bound to not have many more of come early January!

So, what do you think?  Where should we go!?

It’s Our Earth {giveaway!}

Have you visited all of the lovely Sponsors to your left {<–}?  If so, you’ve already had the opportunity to check out what It’s Our Earth has to offer… and if you’re like me, you’re going to love their upcycled products!  Or, if you’ve been around SEBG since May, you may remember my feature on their Record Bowls during Sophia’s Rock ‘N Rollin’ 1st Birthday Party!?  The bowls were one of the biggest hits of the party… so much so that one got taken by a party guest!

Although the upcycled record bowls are probably my favorite product for sale at the It’s Our Earth Etsy Shop, they have more for just about everyone {think Christmas list!}.

How cool are these…They’re upcycled Album Jacket Notebooks.  Yes, I’m a huge Elvis fan and I can totally see this as my new blogging journal!
