How to Choose an Amber Teething Necklace

amber teething necklace

When I worked in childcare, parents would always talk about their baby teething.  I thought "Geeze Louise. How bad could teething really be?"  Then I became a parent... and found out. Actually, Sophia didn't have a hard time teething and Moreaya's not been so bad either.  She just got her 8th tooth so we might have more problems when the molars come around! I first heard about Amber Teething Necklaces on a Mommy Forum.  We were cloth diapering and trying to go green and natural so I thought a natural way to help with teething only made sense.  I had the same first questions that most ask me when they see Moreya's necklace now so here are the answers if you have some too!  So when I was sent an Amber Necklace and Bracelet from Spark of Amber, recently, I thought … [Read more...]

Disposable Diapers that are Organic – Huh!?

ebdiapers

Seems like it couldn't quite possibly be true, right? But it is!  Ok, the diaper might not be truly classified as organic, but they do come from Earth's Best Organic - a company that I truly trust when it comes to ingredients. Although we're a pretty much a full-time cloth diapering family, there are times when I do reach for disposables.  I like to say I proved to myself that I can use cloth diapers while camping for two years now, so it's my time to relax.  Sure, using cloth diapers when you're camping isn't that much work, but I'm a tired lady, here. Did you know that a newborn urinates as many as 20 times a day? A newborn’s diaper will need to be changed every 2-3 hours for the first few months? The average baby will need at least 5,000 diapers … [Read more...]

Gardening With Kids: 8 Ideas to Get Your Child Involved

childgardening

I was inspired to write this post as Sophia, Moreaya, and I have connected over our garden this year.  I'm thankful for this opportunity to share with my children as a part of a project with The Home Depot.  This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Home Depot. We've always had a garden - since the first Spring that we moved into our house.  The first year our garden was great, but we were just learning.  The second year, I was 8 months pregnant, so I didn't help Rob much.  After Sophia was born, I really didn't help much - someone else kept me a little busy.  Last year, our third with a garden, I had an almost 2 year old and a 4 month old... still not a ton of time to devote to raising more living things! This year, oh this year, we have enjoyed our garden to the … [Read more...]

A Look at the Mombo Nursing Pillow

mombolounging_zps53a6f92b

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Comfort and Harmony for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. My babies are growing up.  Moreaya is already 16 months old and Sophia, my baby, is going to be 3 in less than 2 weeks.  It just doesn't seem imaginable.  I still see them both, so tiny. Even though I don't have a baby baby, I still love to look at baby products in stores.  Do you find yourself wondering over to the infant section and checking out all the new products?  I know I can't be the only one.  I was sent a Mombo nursing pillow a few weeks ago.  Although I'm not currently breastfeeding, I do remember a few things about the subject and being comfortable {both myself and the baby} was one of the most important parts of the breastfeeding … [Read more...]

Spring Butterfly Craft

butterflycocooncraft

I was inspired to write about a fun Spring Butterfly Craft that Sophia and I made while participating in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Elmer’s. I received product samples to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating. There are some days that I miss working in child care.  Not that I miss kids, because obviously I have two that keep me busy, but I miss the crafts.  As the Director, I made sure that my staff and the children had a ton of craft supplies at their fingertips every day.  Crafting is so important to kids.  They feel a sense of accomplishment when they've created something.  Not to mention the joy they get with spending time actually making it. So, lately I've been making Crafts at Home a priority - like it … [Read more...]

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Quest for the Crystal Mickey DVD

MMCH Crystal Mickey Box Art email[1]

Sophia has loved Disney Junior's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse since she was little bitty.  Moreaya has been the same way.  Honestly, I think there's just something about the "Hot Dog" song that just gets you! About a month ago the extended episode "Quest for the Crystal Mickey" aired on Disney Junior and Sophia loved it.  She kept seeing the commercials before it came on and when it finally did air, she didn't move through the whole thing.  She loves "adventure" role play right now and often tells her Dad and I it's time "to go on adventures!"  She "sees" footprints on the ground that need to be followed, she's always talking of being a Detective, and loves to solve a good mystery - seriously.  Somehow we forgot to DVR it, like we … [Read more...]

All I Want for Mothers Day is… QUIET!

grandmawithgirls

I was inspired to write this post about my plans for Mother's Day while participating in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for MetLife.  I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating. It's so true.  Everyday of my life seems so loud - there are always things pulling me in 15 different directions and this Mothers Day, I simply want quiet. You know the kind of quiet that comes from tiny footsteps on the ground... The kind of quiet where all you can hear is the sound of her {and your} heart beating with pure joy after you've chased each other around the yard, squealing... The kind of quiet that comes with this smile, although it stands for a thousand words... The kind of quiet that is sharing special moments with my family … [Read more...]

When Parenting Gets Tough: How to Handle Thumb Sucking

Thumb Sucking

It's been awhile since my last When Parenting Gets Tough post so I thought I would come back with a BANG!  Thumb Sucking. Yep, parenting is tough.  I'll admit, when I was pregnant, I knew being a Mom was going to be hard, but I never really realized how hard.  Sure, it's completely rewarding and obviously the good outweighs the bad or people wouldn't have more than 1 child, right?  But it's hard.  This post isn't going to be a woe is me type.  No, I just want to share one inner struggle that I'm dealing with and simply hope that someone has some insight, has dealt with the same issue before, or can lead me to what I really feel I should do.  Heck, that's why I write.  Sometimes when I just let my brain do the talking, my fingers do the typing … [Read more...]

Snack Ideas – Toddler Sushi

Toddler Sushi

I'm constantly challenged when it comes to snack time ideas for my girls.  It's so easy to just grab a pre-packaged snack, but the girls love when I get creative with their meals!  I ran across this idea when I first started browsing Pinterest.  While we were enjoying a delicious Sushi lunch this weekend, Sophia wanted so bad to try the sushi, but just hasn't gotten up the nerve yet.  She's VERY particular about her choice of foods.  So, I told Rob about my idea for making her some Toddler Sushi and he said "I want some too!". Toddler Sushi It only takes three super simple ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.  Rice Krispies Cereal {or any crushed cereal would work} Banana Peanut Butter Spread … [Read more...]

Easy Snack Solution – Kids Trail Mix

Kids Trail Mix

We've been going on quite a few walks lately and it never fails that the daughter that can vocalize her wants... always wants a snack while we're walking. And the one that doesn't quite vocalize herself, well at least with words yet, still lets me know that she would like something to! We have quite a few cannister of Earth's Best Organic snacks in our pantry that the girls love, but tire of by themselves sometimes.  So, I've been putting together a quick and easy snack solution for them to chomp on while we're on the road sidewalk.  You can get really creative in your ingredients! Raisins Marshmallows Earth's Best Happy Snax Dried Blueberries Dark Chocolate Chips Earth's Best … [Read more...]

How Does She Sleep!? DIY Stuffed Animals Storage

Stuffed Animals Storage Problem

Seriously - How does she sleep in there!? Before Sophia was born, I had an unspoken rule - no stuffed toys.  From my experience in a childcare setting, I just knew what a breeding ground of germs they are.  But then Miss Sophia fell in love with Mickey and she got the set from the Disney store.  Then her Papaw got her a special dog on Valentine's Day.  Then she got another that "I just love, Mama!" then another... and another. We've had to implement a new rule.  Only 3 stuffed animals in Sophia's bed at bedtime.  The rule gets broken, oh, I don't know every other night, but we're limiting that's for sure.  So, I started scouring Pinterest for ideas on how to control the animals that aren't in her bed instead of having them thrown all over the … [Read more...]
