A Peek into My Writing Process #MyWritingProcess

Hello friends – Lindsey here with a post about… well, me!  I’m not sharing a product I love, a recipe, or anything really – just a glimpse of me, something that’s been missing around here for awhile, but hopefully I’m back on track on So Easy Being Green to start sharing a little more about me so we can get to know each other better!

I was inspired to show you a peek into my writing process today from a fun blog tour in which Anne from Flour Sack Mama participated last week.  She’s a fellow Stonyfield Yo-Getter and east Tennesseean so I’m honored to follow her footsteps in this one!

Why did I start blogging?

I’m going to show you a peek into my writing process by answering 2 specific questions and hopefully you’ll learn a little bit more about me!  So Easy Being Green has really evolved over the last 3 1/2 years.  I originally started the blog to review cloth diapers.  That’s all I wanted to do.  I was head over heels for the subject and wanted to try more brands and share my experience in a platform, so I chose blogging.

Although my girls are both out of cloth diapers now, the subject continues to be one that brings in the most traffic every day so don’t expect cloth diapers to completely disappear from my blog.  They’re what inspired me to live green-er every day and a huge part of who I am because they’re what started this whole thing!

What does my writing process look like?

I feel like my writing process took a huge leap of progress when I started joining blogging networks.  I learned what a good post should look like and what it shouldn’t.  I definitely rely on pictures to tell the story of my post, with words supporting them.  So when I write,  here’s what it looks like:

  • Pictures!  I take pictures before I write a word.  I tell my story [whether it be a product review or personal story] around the images I capture.  After I take the pictures, I edit them and let them dictate where the post will go.
  • Write – As I said, I write around the pictures and almost every word you read is written during the day – while the girls are working on a project, while they’re napping, etc.  If I write past 8 pm, well, the post would be a crazy mess!  I’m an early to bed, early to rise kinda gal!
  • I tend to get wordy [like now].  I want to write as if I’m sitting and having a conversation with you – that’s how I hope you read my posts too!

Why do I continue to blog?

Believe it or not, this blog that started as a simple platform to review cloth diapers, has become a source of income for my family.  I am still writing about things I love, but I’ve been able to turn myself from a SAHM to a WAHM and I’m so proud of that fact!  I love knowing that I’m contributing to my family while still staying at home with my girls and being a part of their daily lives – seeing all those special moments and sharing them with you all – whether through a blog post or an instagram picture.

I blog because I love the connections I’ve made with other bloggers, readers, and even blog sponsors!  I blog because I never print pictures of my girls and I feel like one day I can look back at the words I’ve written for over 3 1/2 years and have a fabulous documentary on the girls’ lives and what we did in these early years!

I’ll be asking two fellow bloggers to join me in this Blog Tour and will link to them when they participate!

How long have you been visiting So Easy Being Green?  Is there a topic that you’d like me to share more of on SEBG?

I’ve probably only been following you for a month or two. I found you through a blog hop and I rarely subscribe to the new blogs I visit, but yours really got my attention. I LOVE how conversational you write. You’re so relatable. I think what drew me in the most was your ability to make “living green” seem doable and less daunting. So thanks! I always see more things I “should” do to be green and it seems overwhelming. You help me take it a little at a time. :)
