Why I Started Juicing

If you follow me on Facebook, Pinterest, or even instagram, you’ve probably seen me talking about my new health venture… Juicing!

Why I Started Juicing

I was quite surprised to see a few people recommend that I don’t start, or recommend other health actions over Juicing.  Well, honestly, that’s just overwhelming.  Here I’ve done research, bought a Juicer, and start asking for recipe advice and then I get “Well, juicing isn’t actually the best choice.”

Well, I chose it.  And I’m sharing today…

Why I Started Juicing.

Juicing Jump StartRob and I recently watched the documentary Food Inc.  We’ve been on a documentary kick lately and it was the one he chose for that afternoon.  I was astounded at the results that the gentlemen in the film had after participating in a month and 60 day Juice Fast.

Now, I’m not likely going to go on any Juice Fast any time soon, but it was incredible to see!  Add those thoughts in the back of my head to the fact that I answered a questionnaire recently about my health and had to admit that I hardly consume any vegetables daily.  It made me realize that I needed to do something.

Now, obviously I could just try to eat more veggies daily, but I really don’t think it’s going to happen.  I just can’t stomach eating greens and beets daily, but I thought I could stomach drinking them.

Beet Juice Raw Juicing

I was right.

I am totally in love with juicing and have been replacing breakfast {a meal that I hardly eat anyways because I’m running around, getting the girls fed and dressed} with a cup of fresh, raw vegetable and fruit juice in the mornings!  I’ve found that I’m more regular, I feel like I have more energy {especially when I add that little inch of ginger!}, and I really can’t complain about the taste either.

I’ve been experimenting with different flavors and additions, but so far am loving really everything I’ve tried – Spinach, Kale, Cucumber, Carrots, Apples, Ginger, Blueberries, Beets, Oranges, and Lemons!

The reason Juicing is working for me.

  • I’m replacing it with a meal that I used to skip anyways.  I’m still eating the exact same way I was before, but now I know I’m getting more nutrients and vitamins from fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • I bought a good juicer – not the highest end model, but not the lowest.  I hardly do any prep work, other than washing my fruits and veggies right before I use them.  I’m able to use whole apples in my juicer which means, no slicing and dicing.  Makes it MUCH easier for me to take the time to juice.
  • Consistency and Temperature.  A few people pointed me towards smoothies instead of juicing, but honestly, the consistency wouldn’t be my favorite.  My juice is thin and is pleasant to drink, plus all my veggies and fruits are kept in the refrigerator so the juice is a cool temperature.
  • Trendy.  Ok, so juicing is quite the trend these days, but I am loving another trend combined with juicing too… drinking my juice out of a canning jar.  ;)

Morning Juice RoutineIt’s not quite a complete reason of why I love Juicing, but it is pretty fun, right?  I’m also loving my new Stainless Steel straws that compliment the canning jar and lid.  Both the lid and straws are from!

Eco JarzI was recently sent a few items from EcoJarz – including their Stainless Steel Straws and brush, Stainless Steel and Silicone Canning Jar Lids.  I am loving all these – especially the ability to take my Canning Jar on-the-go, but I especially love the stainless steel straws!  Just like the glass straws I have, they actually make my drink {and juice} taste cooler in temperature.

Eco Jarz Glass Jar with LidEcoJarz make it easy to choose reusable too – with so many great reusable products on their site like their Stainless Steel Straws.  They’ve also recently added my favorite glass straws from Glass Dharma!  The glass straws are made just for them to fit perfectly in their Silicone and Stainless Steel Lids!

  1. Oh my god, so many people are starting juicing all over the web and new recipes are flourishing everywhere! I personally started 5 weeks ago and I can’t stop blogging about it. I really like the concept of the eco jarz, they look very slick and I guess they go in the dish washer anyway. I might order a few.

    Thanks for the post.

  2. We went through a juicing period for a very short time. We HATED cleaning our machine. I’m sure there are better and easier ones then the one we have. Plus it gets pricey buying all the fruits/veggies for the drinks because it goes so fast! Besides those drawbacks I think it is a very awesome concept and hoping to get a GOOD blender for Christmas that will maybe help me in that direction more. Also we are a part of Juice Plus which is a vitamin and much easier to take so I don’t think I ‘need’ it as much as I use to. Fun post! :)

    • Courtney – YES. It does seem that it’s going to be pricey for the veggies and fruits, but I really feel like it’s doing some great things for me, so I’m going to just deal with that part, hard, but I think it’s worth it. It’ll be much easier in the Summer when we can use our own! And I LOVE my juicer!! Although it does take a bit of cleaning, it seems VERY simple to clean for the most part. I’m glad I invested in a machine that is a little easier than others.
      Thanks for stopping by!!

  3. I am a huge fan of juicing though I haven’t started myself. Wanting to! However, have you ever tried adding Greens to your diet?? I have a couple of friends that juice and when I started selling It Works! they were extremely intrigued by the Greens we sell. They are all-natural, you get 8 servings of fruits and veggies, they alkalize, detoxify, balance, and energize. Plus, unlike other Greens on the market, they taste great! You could add them to any juice! And it is easier than trying to juice a ton of kale or spinach and getting so little juice. So I’ve started there for now…and I feel healthier than I have in probably 5 years – less health issues (including the ability to stop taking stomach meds) and more energy. Once we get settled in our new house I’m hoping to start juicing even more!
