Mango Blueberry Smoothies

Oh, smoothies – where have you been all of my life? I see so many smoothie pictures posted on instagram that I’ve been pining over, but honestly, I just thought they were too hard to make.

I have an average blender, with average smoothie knowledge and I just wasn’t convinced I could pull them off.

I was wrong – yahoo!

I finally decided to try my hand at smoothies when we received a pack of Squooshi reusable pouches the other day {free for review}.

I am constantly making the girls pureed fruits and applesauce snacks to fill the pouches, but this time I wanted to try something different.

Mango Blueberry Smoothies Ingredients

We had blueberries and we had mangoes – perfect timing! I also had plain yogurt, milk, and ice, which is all the ingredients that you need for these yummy smoothies.

layeringsmoothies

A friend let me in on the secret of layering smoothies. She suggested that you put your softer and liquid items on the bottom, then layer harder fruits and ice on the top.

Do you layer the same way? Then you blend! Even my little average blender smoothed these up in just a matter of seconds!

smoothieconsistency

Just like in life, consistency is the key with smoothies. You don’t want it to be too runny or too “icy”. If you’re filling Squooshi reusable snack pouches, like I was, it’s better to have a thicker consistency. Otherwise, your kiddos will spill the smoothie goodness all over themselves and your floor!

I was a little concerned with the zip opening to fill, being on the bottom of the Squooshi packs, but it stayed tightly closed while the girls were drinking.

The openings were wide enough to fill them easily, although I much preferred filling the larger size! The opening at the bottom of the pack also made for a much easier and faster clean up, as the water flows right through.

Sophia’s favorite fruit is blueberries so I made her a quick batch of blueberry smoothies first. She, of course, picked the blue bird Squooshi pack. Although she can easily drink from a cup and a straw, she loved using the pouch!

mangoblueberry

Look at the beautiful color the mangoes gave the smoothies! Ahhh… it was just as tasty as it was pretty too!

And Miss Sophia is just like her Mommy… always looking for ways to reuse. Like how she came up with a cold pack “in case I get a boo boo, Mom”!?

We all three enjoyed drinking up these sweet, cool treats after playing outside. I filled a few more Squooshi pouches for the next day and was so excited to hand them to the girls the next morning. Moreaya quickly handed it back. I tried a taste and… well, enjoy your smoothies fresh!

I learned that smoothies work well in the reusable pouches, but only immediately after making them. Next time I’ll try to freeze immediately and see if they keep better that way. Otherwise, I’ll stick with pureed fruits and applesauces to make ahead of time!

Squooshi Reusable Food Pouches are available on Amazon. A 4-pack of assorted sizes, like the ones that I reviewed, retail for $18.49.

This smoothie sounds delish, and I'd love to try it. I've used the pouches with pureed fruits to make smoothies, too.
