Holiday Giving: Give the Gift of a Great Future with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America

I've Boys and Girls Clubs of America been blogging a lot about giving back this Holiday Season.  It's an important lesson that Sophia and I have been talking about.  I think it's really important to teach children, especially at Christmas time, so they don't get all wrapped up in the "Me, Me, Me" of the Holidays.  With the talk of Santa, gifts, and being Naughty and Nice – Giving fits right in and should be at the front of that list!

Along with Holiday Giving comes the 2nd Annual Boys and Girls Clubs of America Give the Gift of a Great Future Holiday Campaign.  My community is very small, but we do have an active Boys and Girls Club here.  Although my girls are too young to attend, it doesn't stop me from learning all about the Clubs, as well as finding great information on their website about Holiday Giving – especially this great list of tips to help teach your children all about the subject.  We've definitely used the list while having our little lessons on giving.

Some of the ideas go perfectly with what Sophia and I have been doing already.  We've been talking about Giving a lot, especially with donations to our local Food Bank.  Talking about the process – Why We're Doing It, Who the Food is For, etc gets Sophia thinking and asking questions.  Reading Books about Giving is another great tip on the list.  Volunteering Together and Making Philanthropy a Family Value is so important to us.  Although the girls are still a little small, Rob and I have already been discussing future projects that we could do together as a family to help the girls give back.

Along with the tips, there are a ton of other great things happening on the Give the Gift of a Great Future website.  I encourage you to check out some of the clubs participating in the Kids Give Back Photo Contest.  You can vote for which club you think deserves the most recognition {there's a semi-local club on there to me too!}.

You can also participate by GIVING to a Boys & Girls Club of America by never leaving your computer.  Check out the fun, free Giving Game to easily donate an item that the clubs always need this Holiday Season!

What will your Holiday Giving look like this year?

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Boys and Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.

  4. I know we need to talk more about giving to others, but we do talk about it each week for church. Maggie gets to put money in the offering herself. Someday, she will actually understand why :)

  5. That is a great list of tips! I think I’m going to have a chat with Noah about giving back and how rewarding it is!
