Tommorrow’s the Day.

My first race is tomorrow.  Our small town holds a race on the 4th of July that’s 4 miles long.  I told you a few weeks ago that I had started on a New Me.  The journey has been relatively short, but very intense!

Here’s how it all started…

The 4 Miler on the 4th has been going on for a few years now and ever since my husband and I got together {he’s a bit of a health nut}, I said I would do it.  Everyone kinda laughed because I am nowhere near a health nut or a runner.  I seriously don’t think {before this training period} I have ever ran a mile in my life – even in school when you were supposed to, I always walked some.

  • In 2009, I found out that I had Melanoma on my left calf, so no race that year.
  • In 2010, I had a 6 week old baby, so no race that year.
  • In 2011, I was about 4 months pregnant, so no race that year.

When hubby asked me a few weeks ago if I was finally going to do it – I said “I don’t have enough time!”  He said 5 weeks was plenty of time to train so I reluctantly agreed.  He wrote me a Training Schedule and I stuck to it.  The first Saturday of the calendar I ran for 5 minutes straight – 5 minutes!!!  This was a huge accomplishment for me and I sent a text to all my friends, wrote it on Facebook… it was huge!

Two weeks later, I ran a mile.  Last Saturday, I ran 4 total.  This is insane.  I do feel like a new person.  I’m down 7lbs from my starting weight, but the biggest change – When I was shaving my legs in the shower yesterday, I had this weird hump in my calf.  A muscle!?!

My goal is to finish the race tomorrow in under 60 minutes.  I can run one mile in 13 minutes, but I doubt I can run each of the 4 miles that fast!  My sweet hubby has been so supportive during these past few weeks and he’ll be running by my side.  He is even going to let me cross the finish line first, so technically there’s no way I can possibly be the last to finish!

I can’t wait to share with everyone {through blog posts, texts, FB updates, instagram, maybe even a Tweet or 2} my success come tomorrow after about 8 am!
