I am really excited about an upcoming blog series that I’ll be doing as a part of the It’s a Girl Thing PERIOD Cloth Challenge!
It’s a Girl Thing PERIOD is a division of Posh Pads. A few months ago, they put a challenge out to some of their Facebook fans and asked if anyone was interested in switching to Mama Cloth completely. I accepted the challenge and here we are!
Our vision is to help others make an informed choice in switching to cloth, encourage them to try them and help clear our minds of the fear that cloth is something gross, hard to care for or not worth the trouble. We know it’s not for everyone, although who ever thought sticking a tampon up our woohoo was such a wonderful idea in the beginning. We have to retrain our minds and for the young girls start them on the path with cloth. I really feel like that is where change will have it’s impact. If we as mothers help our daughters start out with cloth that makes it easier.
I used Mama Cloth part-time while recovering post-partum, thanks to some of the lovely Sponsors from the “New Year, New Babies, New Mommies of 2″ Event. I was surprised at how easy it was to use and launder.
But from now on, I’ll be using cloth full-time during my periods AND I’ll be sharing with all of you, my experiences with it! Don’t worry, I won’t get too TMI on you, but I do want this to be a fun, informative series!
I plan to cover topics such as:
- Comfortableness of Mama Cloth
- Price vs. Disposable Options
- Health Concerns of Disposable Products
- Laundry Routines
- How to make Cloth
- Review of It’s a Girl Thing PERIOD cloth pads

I agree with the PP (except CDs have been more on my mind lately, since I am building my first stash for our new daughter coming in a few months!) I’m really interested in trying this, but the laundry part seems a little… ummm… less hygienic? I’m curious as to how it works for you and what you have to say on cleaning them. You may make a convert of me yet!

Wish I had stumbled on that opportunity. I love cloth pads. I am 100% cloth now.

Oh, I totally missed out on that opportunity. I am absolutely, 100% for switching to all cloth!

I’m really interested in trying this. REALLY interested. I’ve spent the last month thinking about it more than I think about cloth diapers (gasp).
I’d like to know how to get my husband on board. He’s always been ok with CDs, so I thought this would be no different, but apparently it is. He was very nice about it and said I could try it if I wanted, but I can tell he is completely grossed out by it.
Brittany — I just had the same conversation with my husband and got the same response! LOL He said something to the effect of, “you can deal with ‘down there’ however you want…”
I started scoping some out recently too, and with a baby in cloth diapers, it feels like a really easy add-on for ME to do cloth too. I just don’t know how I’ll feel about it when my kids are done with diapers. I suppose 4+ years in cloth for me is more than enough time to make a decision
