Let’s Go Potty: What You Wanted to Hear

1 Flares 1 Flares ×

When I asked what you all wanted to talk about during this Event, well, I was quite blown away with some of your requests and ideas!  We’ve already covered a few ideas, but the following are ones that I simply can’t get out of my head and definitely want to address!

debnmike m said:  i would like to know the “average” time it takes to potty train a boy and the same for a girl. I know they can be different.

Great question that I totally don’t know the answer too.  I’ve always heard that little boys are harder to train than girls and usually take longer, but I don’t have a lot of experience – although in the childcare setting, I never noticed a difference.  It really depended on the child.  I found pretty much the same answers when I googled the topic as well.  I did find this answer from an expert on a Parent.com article and also liked what they said about Potty Training taking months.  I just don’t believe in the Potty Training in 1 Day ideas.  This is a huge learning experience so don’t get frustrated when your girl or boy takes awhile to learn!

Which leads me to…

Tiffany said: I’d like to talk about when people have had success with early potty training. Just how early did they get started, and how long did the process take (for me it was 7 months, but we were all done by the time Darah was 20 months old).

I’d love to hear other readers’ stories about this as well!  Just like Tiffany, potty training Sophia has taken a good 2 intensive months of wearing panties and no diapers during the day, but months of introducing the potty and intermittently using it.

Rachel said:  I’d love to see a chart of sorts with things like overnight effectiveness, ease of on/off, stage of use (starting to train, nearly trained, etc.)

I’m not totally sure that I’ll have enough free time to make a chart, neither am I creative enough with computer graphics and applications, but I’ll definitely do a wrap-up post of the Trainers I’ve reviewed as well as others that we’ve used that I purchased on my own!  Look for that next week when the Let’s Go Potty event comes to a close.

Excellent blog post idea and I’ll get to work on it ASAP!

Keri B. said:  Potty training during the daytime is one thing, but how do you get them to get up instead of wetting the bed (or a night diaper)?

Keri is totally right.  I feel like we’ve conquered Daytime Potty Training, but Nighttime is a totally different story.  I’m terrified of it.  I’m terrified of trying to let her sleep in panties {wet sheets in the middle of the night, I hardly get any sleep as it is!} AND I’m terrified of waking her up in the middle of the night, in the beginning of the night training process, to go to the potty.  My child doesn’t wake up easily and when she does, she’s not going to go back to bed so easily, or so I’m afraid!  I’ll definitely tackle this topic when we’re ready to start it!  If any of you have tips, please feel free to share!

Last but not least…

She’d been in ‘sposie’s too. Our 11mo has been cloth diapered the whole time and I’ve been starting a little EC with her here and there.

I haven’t written it yet, but I totally plan on an “EC” blog post very soon.  A general “What’s EC” type of post and how it helped us.  As well as ways that I plan to implement EC earlier and more intensive with Moreaya than I did with Sophia.  I’d love to have any advice on this as well!

If anyone is interested in writing a Guest Post on the topic of Potty Training {specifically Elimination Communication or Nighttime Potty Training}, I’d love to feature you!  Email me at sebg.blog@gmail.com if you’re interested!

Not to scare you or anything but my 4 yo was wearing diapers at night up until about 3-4 days ago! She has been potty trained since 2-2.5. SHE has wanted to wear diapers. She’d wake up dry most of the time but would have an accident about once every 2-3 weeks. Every time I would get her to go to bed in panties, she would have an accident (of course in OUR bed…do you know what a PITA it is to change a waterbed in the middle of the week when you are working 9 hrs every day?!) and want back in a diaper. Surprisingly this week (we are out on spring break..or were…back to work tomorrow ), she has been wanting to wear panties to bed. I told her just to make sure when she comes into bed with us (which is every night around 4-5am) to make sure she goes potty before coming into bed. She has been doing really well….not gonna say more cause I don’t want to jinx it! LOL I would still love a trainer for overnights and I think she would be willing to wear them since they are more like undies than a diaper. So for now I would leave her in a diaper overnight or a trainer that won’t leak (at least too much!). Oh BTW a solution to changing the bed in the middle of the night…grab a nice thick towel or 2 and throw them down where the pee is and go back to sleep! LOL Yes I’ve done this! :-)

  2. I just had to come tell you this story…

Last night I caught up on your blog, read, and entered all of your potty training posts/giveaways. I even left a comment saying how I am NOT interested in potty training my 2.5yo because I’m pregnant. Then this morning….

My daughter wakes up, lays in bed with me for awhile, goes downstairs with Dad for awhile…. When I get her changed for church this morning I ask my husband if her diaper is fresh. Surprisingly he says no (shame on him for not changing her), but it is bone dry! I decided to sit her on the potty. Even though I’ve done this before she has never gone.

This morning she PEED!! I was shocked.

We got home from church and her diaper is still dry. I sit her on the potty again. SHE PEED!

I still do NOT feel ready for this, but it looks like it just might be happening anyway. I thought you would get a kick out of this since I JUST left a comment last night telling you that I’m no where close to doing this. :)
