New Baby: Tommee Tippee

When I decided that I would start pumping some breast milk for Moreaya, it was extremely important to me what bottle I would choose to feed her with.  I waited the recommended 2 weeks before giving her a bottle, to hope to avoid nipple confusion, and wanted to find bottles that were as close to breastfeeding as possible.

After some research, I was interested in trying Tommee Tippee’s line of Closer to Nature bottles.  I’ve tried many Tommee Tippee products in the past and have always been impressed by the quality, so I was sure that these bottles would work great for us… and they have!

I was sent the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Newborn Starter Set to review.

Inspired by nature and developed in conjunction with midwives, breastfeeding moms and babies, Closer to Nature bottles are intuitively designed for easier, more natural feeding. The bottles feature unique soft, super-wide nipples that naturally flex and stretch like the breast, and the natural shape helps baby latch on, allowing parents to successfully combine breast and bottle feeding.
The bottle shape provides a comfortable hold and breastfeeding-like closeness, while the ultra-sensitive anti-colic valve lets babies feed at their own pace. The resulting decrease in air intake, vacuum buildup and nipple collapse can help reduce gas and colic while feeding.

The kit includes the following:  {4} 9fl oz bottles,  {2} 5fl oz bottles, {3} formula dispensers,  and {1} bottle and nipple cleaner.

Moreaya took a bottle of breast milk the first time it was offered.  I have no doubt it’s because these bottles are made to be as close to mother’s breast as possible because we’ve tried every pacifier on the market and she gags.  I was a bit afraid that would be her reaction to the bottle too, but it wasn’t at all!

The bottles are super easy to use and very easy to clean… which is such a plus since I hate wasting my precious time washing bottles.  I really like the shape of them, as they are wider than most bottles that you see and comfortable to hold.  They are BPA & Phthalate Free and I couldn’t be happier with our bottle feeding experience with them!

Tommee Tippee has a wonderful, new interactive online service for New Moms called The Day Baby Was Born.  It’s a great way to document your Baby’s Arrival {both before and after}… especially when you’re super busy!  It’s an easy and FREE way to remember all the important dates and activities, as well as to share with your family and friends!  Be sure to check it out and see a sample Story Book here.

Buy It: You can purchase the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Newborn Starter Set from Babies R Us, online or in store, for $44.99.

New Baby: Tiny Tush

I can’t quite believe that today is the last giveaway in the “New Year, New Babies, New Mommies of 2” Event.  I hope that you’ve all enjoyed finding great New Mommy and New Baby products and had fun entering {and hopefully winning} some of these great prizes!  This Event wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing and fabulous Sponsors, so if you have extra time, be sure to thank them for sharing their products {and giveaway love} with us all!

Today we’re ending the Event with a bang… a fluffy bang, that is!  I had previously tried the Tiny Tush Elite OS diaper and really became a Tiny Tush fan, so I was very excited to try their smaller version, which they refer to as the Tiny Tush Elite Mini!  I chose to receive the Aplix closure simply because I like velcro when babies are tiny… it makes it much easier and faster to put the diaper on them, I think.

Here’s what the cute little Elite Mini looks like on Moreaya right now…

It features the snap-down rise settings {she’s on the smallest right now}, so this diaper will fit her for quite awhile.  It’s advertised to fit 4-15 lbs.  Moreaya is about 7.5 lbs and I really have a hard time seeing that this diaper would fit a baby much smaller than her.  It’s a bit bulky and too wide between her little legs, I wish it was narrow-er and a bit trimmer there, but other than that, it fits her pretty well.

The insert is a bit unique, in that it is a very thin, microfiber material about the size of a small washcloth or cloth wipe.  I fold it in half and stuff it in the pocket.  Within just a short amount of time, about 1-2 hours, Moreaya has completely soaked the insert.  I like that it’s super thin as it helps the diaper not be more bulky, but I can tell we’ll definitely have to use something else to increase absorbency very soon.

The Tiny Tush Elite Mini is definitely a great diaper to have in your Newborn stash if you have a larger baby, because I think it will fit a bit longer than some other Newborn diapers that are on the market.  It comes in either Aplix or Snap closure, so it’s very versatile and lots of cute colors!

Buy It:  You can purchase a Tiny Tush Mini Elite cloth diaper from the Tiny Tush website… or from a variety of local and online retailers!  These diapers retail for $14.95.

Win It:  One lucky So Easy Being Green reader is going to win a Tiny Tush Mini Elite, in their choice of color and closure!  This giveaway is open to US & Canadian residents only!

New Baby: Newborn Cloth Diapers Rental Program {3 of 3}

This is my 3rd and Final post in the series of “Newborn Cloth Diapers Rental Program” from Earthy Crunchy Mama. Don’t miss my first post all about the “How’s, Why’s and What’s of Renting Newborn Cloth Diapers” and my second post “What Diapers Are Working For Us“.

We’re coming to the end of “New Year, New Babies, New Mommies of 2” and getting quite close to the end of my journey with Newborn Diapers.  Yep, my little tiny girl is already quickly outgrowing some of the diapers and I can’t believe it!  Moreaya was born at 6 lbs, 15 oz; weighed 6 lbs 8 oz at discharge and still weighed the same at her first Dr. appt at 6 days old.  We weighed her yesterday, on our plain ole bath scale, using the weigh yourself and then weigh yourself holding her method, which is not the most scientific method, but it gets the job done, and she weighed 8 lbs 6 oz.  I really think this is probably pretty close to being true as she has really started to gain some weight lately, it’s very obvious in her face and the way that some of her diapers are beginning to fit.

She’s still fitting fabulously in the FuzziBunz XS, but the MiniMaestro XS & bumGenius XS are barely attaching around her little chunky belly now.  The GroVia Newborns are tight around her belly, but we’re still experiencing some leaks around the legs {no weight gain in her teeny legs, it appears!}.

After using these diapers for almost a month now, I’m very surprised to say that the FuzziBunz is by far my favorite of any major Newborn brand diaper in the rental {and actually of any in our stash}.  It’s a surprise simply because I thought I like aplix better than snaps, but the single row of snaps on the FB make it super easy to fasten.  It also seems to be the most absorbent and I think is the only diaper that we’ve yet to have any leaks in {pee or poop}.  The bumGenius comes in a close second, but we have experienced a couple of leaks {1 out the leg and the other from it just being less absorbent than the FB}.

I plan on keeping the rental for at least another month since I have a couple of larger diapers to try out on her {bumGenius S, FuzziBunz S, and MiniMaestro S}.  After using the diapers for 4 weeks now, I’m totally convinced that a Newborn Cloth Diaper Rental is truly the only way to go if you’re at all interested in using cloth on your Newborn.  There is just no way that it makes sense financially to invest in that many diapers for just a few weeks, in my opinion.

Lastly, Earthy Crunchy Mama has one of the best Newborn Rentals on the market {and I’m not just saying that because I adore Jenn and her store}, but I’ve really looked at different programs and truly believe it.  She’ll work with you on sizing {baby is bigger than you thought?  Send your diapers back and exchange for a bigger size – only cost is shipping}, length of Rental, and diapers you choose to use on your new baby {prefolds are cheaper, but I absolutely loved the ease of Pockets and AIOs, especially since I’ve been busy with TWO babies!}.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Newborn Cloth Diaper Rental Program and idea!  Have you ever rented before?  Will you consider renting with your next baby?

Ready to sign-up for your Newborn Cloth Diaper Rental at Earthy Crunchy Mama? Be sure to say So Easy Being Green sent you! Not only do I get an affiliate credit, but you’ll get $5 off your First Month’s Rental!

New Baby: Green Scene Diapers

****EDIT {5/16/2012}****
It saddens me to say that this Sponsor never fulfilled this giveaway. Although these are some of my favorite fitted diapers, I can no longer endorse a Sponsor that doesn’t follow through with promised Customer Service.
***********

If you’ve been reading about my love for cloth diapers for any amount of time, you’ve seen the name Green Scene Diapers come up a few times.  I’ll admit, sometimes I tend to go with “brands” because you know what you’re getting with most brand name diapers.  Sometimes it’s a bit scary to purchase from a WAHM because it’s something new… but that’s why I love Mommy reviews, don’t you?  You get to find out about new diapers that you might not have ever came across and today, I can’t wait to share my Green Scene diaper love with you… AGAIN!

I just happened across Green Scene the first time.  I found Melisa’s Facebook page and was very impressed with the look of her diapers.  In the pictures they looked like they were very high quality.  When I received my first Green Scene fitted in the mail, I fell in love {We’ve had our first Green Scene fitted for almost a year now and it is still going strong, even after being used at least twice a week, if not more}.  When I used my first Green Scene fitted on Sophia, I fell head over heels in love.  These are my go-to nighttime diapers, paired with a Wool Cover!

For this Event, Melisa sent us a couple of her famous custom Swirl Dyed OBV diapers, in a Newborn and One-Size.  I was so excited to see one of these swirl diapers in person and I told her to surprise us with the colors.  Oh, she made the perfect combination, don’t you think!?!

How cute are these girls in their matching diapers!?  Both the Newborn and OS fitted come with 2 soakers.  The OS soakers actually snap together and snap onto the diaper and I use them both for nighttime.  The Newborn diaper features a snap down, so if you still have the umbilical cord stump, it’s not an issue.  This fitted fits Moreaya perfectly right now and she’s able to wear it for awhile, even without a cover, before it’s damp on the outside.  Sophia is on the largest setting of the OS, but it still fits her great, both in the rise and around the waist.

You can’t see it from the pictures, but the snaps are all coordinating with the swirls too… a mix of orange, purple, and pink!  This is by far, my favorite fitted ever!

Buy It:  You can purchase a custom One-Size Swirl Dyed OBV cloth diaper from Green Scene Diapers Hyena Cart for $23.00.  The custom Newborn Diapers retail for $16.00.

Be sure to connect with Green Scene Diapers on Facebook, where you’ll always save 10% if your a Fan, but today, Melisa is offering So Easy Being Green readers a very exclusive {and BIG} discount… use code “SEBG20” to save 20% off your Green Scene purchases!!!!

Win It:  One lucky So Easy Being Green reader is going to win a OS Swirl Dye Diaper from Green Scene Diapers!  This giveaway is open to residents WORLDWIDE!!!

New Baby: itzbeen Baby Care Timer

I hope everyone has enjoyed this Event as much as I have!  It’s been so fun sharing with you some of the best products that are available on the market for New Babies and New Mommies!  With just a few days to go, I’ve saved one of my favorite products for the end and I can’t wait for you to see it!

The itzbeen Baby Care Timer is a genius device that has made these last few weeks go much easier than the first few weeks did with Sophia.  Why?  Because New Mommy brain hasn’t been as much of an issue this time around.  If you have had a baby, you totally know what I mean… the sleep deprivation makes you forget everything, including when you last changed your baby’s diaper or fed him/her.  When I was breastfeeding on demand, I still used the Timer, but now that we’re supplementing with some formula, it’s really getting used!

The itzbeen has been such a wonderful tool to have around.  Just wait until you see what this little handheld timer can do!

Not only does this little gadget feature a Soft Glow Nightlight, One Touch Timers for Diaper Changes, Feeding, Sleep/Awake, and Misc. Button {use it for whatever you need to: Medication, etc.}, it also features a slide on the bottom to let Moms remember which side they nursed on last, a backlight so you can see the timers at night, AND an alarm feature, if you wish to turn it on.

Why do I love the itzbeen so much?  Well, obviously it makes life easier.  It’s small and fits in my pocket, but also has a belt clip that I can attach it to my pants so I always have it on hand.  I love the fact that it’s easy to read and use.  The buttons have pictures so it’s easy to remember which timer is for what and they’re one-touch so it’s so simple!

I’m not the only one that loves it… my sweet hubby says it’s one of his favorite things that we have to help keep track of Moreaya’s schedule and it really comes in handy when my Mom is here helping out with her as well!

There is no doubt that I would recommend the itzbeen for ANY new parents and it will most definitely be on the of the products that I’ll remember when it’s time to buy Baby Shower gifts for friends and family!

Buy It:  You can purchase an itzbeen Baby Care Timer on their website, and at other retailers for $24.99.  The timers come in Pink, Blue, and Green… and Twin Packs!  They also offer FREE SHIPPING in the US!

Win It:  One lucky So Easy Being Green reader is going to win an itzbeen Baby Care Timer for themselves!  This giveaway is open to US & Canadian residents only!

New Mommy and Baby: Mombo Nursing Pillow

I had the pleasure of receiving one of the newest nursing pillows on the market… the mombo™ nursing pillow from Comfort & Harmony!  I was very excited to try out this new product and see how it worked for Moreaya and I during our nursing sessions!

I was sent the Comfort & Harmony™ mombo™ Deluxe Pillow in Pinehurst™ Fashion to review.  It’s a beautiful pillow in the prettiest shade of green.  Right away, I noticed the difference in the sides of the pillow and, other than the optional vibration, is what really makes this nursing pillow stand out from the rest!

Pinehurst™ is soft and sophisticated. Styled in calming green, Pinehurst will effortlessly coordinate with any nursery décor or accessory item.
Mombo™ offers a unique Firm2Soft™ design for better nursing support and positioning, plus a soothing vibration feature for lounging.  Customize your mombo with an assortment of stylish slipcover fashions.
The firm side offers enhanced back support during nursing and just the right elevation for baby. the soft side creates the perfect environment for lounging.
The optional vibration helps soothe baby.

The firm side really does make nursing easier and I just love the soft side for lounging with Moreaya on my lap when we’re sitting on the couch.  It makes it an easy way to hold her, while still being hands-free if I need to do something else.

I find that the vibrating option is nice when we’re lounging as well and it isn’t so strong that it’s uncomfortable.  I also love that this pillow is made so that it sits closer to my body.  It makes it easier on my back when I’m nursing Moreaya with the Mombo.

The Mombo is sold exclusively at Babies R Us:  http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=mombo&origkw=mombo&f=Taxonomy/TRUS/2255957&sr=1 and also has a variety of slipcover styles to make any New Mommy and Baby happy!

Buy It:  You can purchase a Comfort & Harmony mombo Nursing Pillow on the Babies R Us website for $49.99.

Win It:  One lucky So Easy Being Green reader is going to win one of these great new Nursing Pillows, just like I reviewed, for themselves!!!  This giveaway is open to US residents only!

New Baby: Better Cloth Diapers

I’ve shared the wonderful store, Better Cloth Diapers with you before and Ina and her lovely online boutique are back again!  This time, though, we’re sharing another item that would be perfect for any new baby… the cutest little Dr. Seuss outfit that you’ve ever seen!

Ina sent me this Bumkins 2 piece outfit in a 3 months size for Moreaya.  I think it is absolutely adorable and it’s really soft as well, as it’s made from 100% Jersey Cotton!  We were afraid that the Newborn size might be too little for her by the time I wrote the review for this Event, but it turns out Moreaya is still too small for the 3 months, but I’m sure she’ll be wearing it soon!  I’ve washed it once {it’s patiently waiting for her to grow in her closet} and it held up very well.  The set is super affordable, at only $14.95, it would be a perfect Baby Shower gift – or a great purchase for your own Baby-to-Be!  The sets come in a choice of Blue and Pink and Newborn and 3 month sizes.

While you’re browsing through these lovely outfits, be sure to check out all of their other fabulous New Mommy and New Baby products including her cloth diaper selections and great quality breast pumps!

Buy It:  You can purchase a Bumkins 2 piece Dr. Seuss Clothing Set, just like the one I reviewed, on the Better Cloth Diapers website for $14.95.

Win It:  One lucky So Easy Being Green reader is going to win a their choice of a Bumkins 2 piece Dr. Seuss set… in blue or pink and choice of size!  This giveaway is open to US residents only!

New Baby: AppleCheeks

I was so excited when I thought of the possibility of being able to try an AppleCheeks size 1 diaper!  How silly does that sound aloud?  But I had always seen pictures of the cute, little mini versions of my Size 2′s and wanted to see how cute they were in person.  Luckily, Moreaya came along and fulfilled this dream!

It truly is an exact miniature of it’s Big Sister, Size 2.  You can see from the picture that even though Moreaya is a skinny Minnie, we’re not on the tightest setting.  The rise is a little big, but it definitely works and we haven’t had any leaks out the legs either!  I think we should definitely call the AppleCheeks size 1 a success!

Our Raspberry Sorbet Little Bundle came with the AppleCheeks well-known bamboo insert.  The great thing about this insert is it’s the same size for both diapers, so in the laundry I don’t have to worry about measuring and comparing to see which is Sophia’s and which is Moreaya’s.  AppleCheeks has also just recently came out with a Stay Dry Microterry Insert, but I haven’t got my hands on one of those yet!

The Size 1 is said to fit from 7-20 lbs, so we’re right at the bottom of the range and I think we still have plenty of room to grow in this diaper!  I only have the highest praises to sing for my love of AC’s!

Buy It:  You can purchase an AppleCheeks Little Bundle with Bamboo Insert, on the AppleCheeks website or a huge variety of online and local retailers, for about $25.00.

Win It:  One lucky So Easy Being Green reader is going to win their own AppleCheeks Bamboo Little Bundle, in your choice of Size 1 or 2 and color!  This giveaway is open to US & Canadian residents only!

Don’t Forget:  Check out Michelle’s great Giveaway Today for a chance to win a Bummis EasyFit Diaper!
