Yep, that’s where we’re stuck. We have no clue what to name this baby! Not the above baby… the one that’s still in my tummy.
We’re almost wishing we wouldn’t have used Sophia’s middle name {not sharing, you know enough about her already!}, because we like it so much… but at the time, we were afraid that we might not have another girl, so we wanted to make sure and use it. It was my Grandmother’s name.
So, I need your help. I want to share the names we’ve came up with and I want your opinion on them. I’m going to talk them through with you, as I have every friend that will listen, and you tell me what you like, what you hate, and any others you can come up with! {Although, we’ve thrown around a ton and these are the ONLY ones that Rob and I agree on!}
Don’t worry about middle names or how it goes with a middle name. We’re using my Maiden name… which is a Filipino custom.
No particular order, here we go:
- Halley or Hallie. {pronounced like Halle Berry, not Hailey – long A sound}
So this one just came out of the air. I think Rob thought of it. I like it. It’s simple, but not too simple. Not widely used and goes with Sophia. - Moorea. {pronounced “More-ay-uh” – long A in the middle}. Not sure on spelling because we want people to pronounce it right and the correct spelling, Moorea, will definitely be hard for people to understand. So, we’re looking at different spellings, although we’re not truly happy with any of them. This name is truly unique, well, in a name’s sense anyways. Rob came up with this one, or we did together. He was jokingly saying “Bora Bora, Tahiti” since that’s where we went on our Honeymoon. I said “Moorea!” It was our favorite island out of the 3 we visited and it sounds pretty. We really, really like this name, but I really want the spelling to be good and easy to read. This is our first choice IF we can be happy with the way it looks on paper AND the way to get people to pronounce it correctly.
- Cordelia or Delia. This was my great Grandmother’s name and it’s a name that I’ve always loved. I think it’s a strong name and goes well with Sophia. I’m wondering if I can really see myself saying that name a million times a day for the rest of my life, though!
There you have it. Our 3 choices. Please, please, pretty please weigh in. We need some outside opinions. Feel free to add others to our list too!

Cordelia! It was on my short list because of Anne of green gables.
Of those, I vote Delia. I’m a former schoolteacher, and that’s the one that will be the easiest growing up (but I do like it, too!). Mooreah is really pretty, and I love that there’s a story behind it, so if you’re set on it, I would say maybe a middle name. Moorea will NEVER be pronounced or spelled correctly. I really like Halley, too, but like others have mentioned, people don’t pay attention and won’t say it correctly, or spell it correctly, especially with all the Haileys, Baileys, Kaylees, and Maylies out there
I always loved the old fashioned names..like Cordelia. A friend did just that after her great grandmother and named her daughter Eleanor and she always has positive comments on that neame. And other names are good, but she may spend her life correcting everyone on spelling and pronunciation. Can’t get Cordelia wrong!
I love Cordelia! You could always shorten it to something like Corie or Coral if you don’t want to use the full name all the time…but I think Cordelia is gorgeous. And it does go with Sophia really well.
I’m sorry, I have to be honest… Moorea as a name? I’m not liking it so much. I think she’ll get weird looks, questions, and all kinds of crap while growing up with that name (I’m sorry, you asked for feedback!). It doesn’t help that it can be shortened to moo, and kids (and some adults) are MEAN. She will have to correct the way people say it and/or spell it for her entire life.
Now, just because you, me, and a few other people that commented have no issue with the pronunciation or spelling of it doesn’t mean that the rest of the world is comprised of people as intelligent.
I do think that it would be a seriously cool middle name, for what that’s worth. I love the idea of Cordelia Moorea Yourlastname. You could also use Mariah as a variation.
I LOVE Cordelia since it reminds me of Anne meeting Marilla in Anne of Green Gables.
“Will you please call me Cordelia?” she said eagerly.
“CALL you Cordelia. Is that your name?”
“No-o-o, it’s not exactly my name, but I would love to be called Cordelia. It’s such a perfectly elegant name.”

I say Moorea… and I would leave the spelling as is. I don’t see it as being a difficult name to pronounce but then maybe thats because I know of the island. I think its a beautiful name. I hear you on the spelling thing though if you do decide to change the spelling. Our daughters name is Finnley and I wouldn’t agree to the name unless we could have the double ‘n’.
Funnily I actually see more pronunciation confusion with Hallie or Halley then with Moorea. Just because at first glance it looks so much like Haley and people don’t tend to pay enough attention and make assumptions towards the more common name.
I love Hallie. I wouldn’t see anything wrong with using Sophia’s middle name, if that is what you love. I wouldn’t mind having my sister’s middle name as my first name (we both go by completely different names anyway, so don’t worry what you name her. She’ll pick her own name if she wants to)
Please, please, please use Cordelia! I love it! And I feel like it’s classic feel matches the best with Sophia. Both are gorgeous, classic, feminine names.
I like Delia or maybe Delilah?

Moorea sound so pretty.. but I am partial to Delia (after all it’s my baby girls name)
Oh my, I completely agree!! I love the meaning, and I LOVE the nickname Tasha suggested!!
So beautiful!
I also love all of them–especially Moorea and Cordelia, but I also think that if you really love Sophia’s middle name, then use that ! Why not?!?
Those are all beautiful names!! I think I like Halley or Delia the best! In my baby book Hattie is an alternative to Halley too! Moorea, which is a great name will probably be the one that gets mispronounced the most out of your choices. My younger sisters name is brianne, and everyone always called her breanna, even when we correct them! All our wonderful choices, so no matter what you pick, I think she will have a beautiful name!
My thoughts! I like them all but my favorite is Delia! So simple and fun and cute! I also like Hallie but if you spell it like that it what everyone will pronounce when they first read it. Spell it Halle. Again simple, fun, and cute!! But I think you should go with your first choice or maybe you’d regret it later if you were done with girls? I hear you on the spelling. You do want to make it easy to read. I wish I had a girl to name

Oh my – you are so brave to put this out here! All of the names that you have selected are beautiful, easy to see why you’re having such a difficult time.
If you want Halley pronounced Halle, I think you’ll probably have to spell it that way. The name Hailey is so popular now, that it is likely people will default to that.
Moorea is lovely, too. And it looks beautiful spelled the “traditional” way.
I know of one little girl named Cordelia, she is eight. I was quite surprised to see it on your list! I love her name, it is very strong, while being elegant at the same time. {This is my fave, too!}
Just realized that my comments are of no help to you. Why did you have to choose three great names?! Whatever name you select for your daughter, it will fit her perfectly!

Moorea is a beautiful name with great personal meaning to you and your husband. If it truly is your favorite, go with it. And as for spelling or pronunciation issues, you’ll get that with any name. I’ve heard Denise said and spelled as Dennis, Rebecca as Rebbeca, Isabelle as Isabella, Jonathan as Jonathon and Lily as Lilly. Even with more common names with supposedly “given” spelling and pronunciation, people will get it wrong, so don’t make that your sticking point.
Delia is my personal favorite from your choices.
I like Halley although she is probably going to get confused for Haley a lot! I like Cordelia or Delia too!
Cordelia is a beautiful strong name. I also love that it’s unusual, my daughter is due in four weeks and will name my first granddaughter Calliope.
Carrie
Delia is my favorite. I think with any of the names you will deal with people mispronouncing them a bit, which is something we deal with having named a child Darah. But I LOVE that name. If there’s one that just pulls at your heartstrings unlike any other, then that’s the one you should go with!

I like “Hallie” but I don’t think you should spell it like that! If you want it to be like Halle Berry, Then spell it like Halle. She will forever be saying “no it’s not Hallie, it’s Hal-eee!”
I like Cordelia and you could call or Delia for short if you are stuck between the two.
My personal opinion is give your kid a name that’s not going to give them a hard time in life. Being a kid and a teenager is tough enough on its own and someones name shouldn’t add any harm to that. Don’t get me wrong, get as creative as you want, just make sure you love the name and that it sounds like it reads! Good luck!!!!!
I think this is a good idea too…but then you will have to use an alias on the blog so we don’t know Sophia’s middle name
Hallie … but I don’t think people would pronounce it like you want them to!
I like Moorea…I tend to like the unusual names though…well other than with ds! LOL Don’t worry about otherpeople pronouncing it right! Trust me it doesn’t matter how you spell it, someone is going to mispronounce it! I get it every day with dd’s name!
Not that I think my opinion will be that valuable but I like Hallie better!
I have a friend named Maura, she is from Italy, sounds like Laura with a m. Wondering if you could spell it like Maurea, or Maureah? A lot of people from other countries seem to pronounce the “aur” as “oor”. Listen to how Ralph Lauren is pronounced in other countries. Just a thought. I like the name Moorea, but I think she would hear people say moo moo if it is spelled that way, just saying!
I think you should use your daughters middle name as your second daughters first name. My middle name is my little sisters first name… it too was my great grandmothers name… we both think it’s cool.

I’d go with Cordelia…… I too, have always loved the name and I think it goes great with Sophia.
I like Moorea because its meaningful to the start of your marriage and start of your family…. But…. I would prob end up calling her Rea… (Like Rã-yah) all the time. You call Sophia, Soph and Sophie often anyway so it seems pretty fitting
. Good luck!
Hallie is my choice
We also like Sadie…but people keep saying…”we had a dog named Sadie”

I like Hallie and Delia as a second choice. We are also trying to decide what our 2nd girl’s name will be. We like Clara, but doesn’t work with what we named our first daughter.
I’d have to go with Cordelia. It’s a good name.
Cordelia! That’s the name.
Cordelia is my favorite. It is so elegant and promosing of a delicious and interesting lady.
Cordelia is my favorite!
