Go Green: Baby Sponsor Spotlight: Greenie Beanie Bottoms

Today you get a “Two-fer”!  Not only are you going to see the first Sponsor of the Go Green: Baby Giveaway Prize Package, but you’re also going to be introduced to a great diaper on Fluffy Friday!

Greenie Beanie Bottoms, other than having one of the cutest names in the world for a Cloth Diapering Store, has a fabulous selection of items for any family and their babies who are leaning towards the green side.  Along with an extensive list of cloth diaper brands, they also carry Toys, Amber Necklaces, Mama products, and much more!  You really should check out their site for fabulous brands and even more fabulous sales and discount codes that are available!

Greenie Beanie Bottoms carries a vast array of re-usable cloth diapers, and one of those brands that you may have heard of, but never tried yourself {if you’re like me}, is Drybees.  GBB sent me a Drybees AIO to test on Sophia.

Honestly, AIO’s are really nice and super easy to use, but they aren’t the first diapers that I reach for.  Usually they take longer to dry than Pocket Diapers and they aren’t absorbent enough for us, especially ones that don’t have an opening so you can stuff more inserts into.  This AIO is one of those… it’s simply got a sewn in soaker and there’s no way to add extra absorbency, other than laying a hemp insert on top of the diaper itself {which is a viable option, though.}

So, do I like this diaper?  Actually, yes.  It’s so super trim… probably the trimmest in our stash.  Of course, that’s thanks to the super thin microfiber insert.  But, it actually holds quite a bit too.  I was very surprised and have really tested the limits of this diaper to truly get a good feel for it.  I’ve been able to leave it on Sophia for 2 1/2 – 3 hours, just like I do a pocket diaper that’s double stuffed!?

The aplix on the diaper seems very durable and sticks to the laundry tabs really good.  I don’t have many worries about the diaper lasting, because it seems extremely well made… made right here in the USA!  Also, to address the drying issue… this diaper line dries {out of my Front Loader} in just an hour or 2.  It’s pretty amazing!  Lastly, Sophia is in the size Medium, which is said to fit from 14-22 lbs.  Soph is a skinny 23 lbs and the diaper fits her really well.  She still has plenty of room to grow, width wise and I really like the rise on this diaper.  I have no doubts that she’ll be able to wear it for a few more months, if not more!

Although AIO’s still aren’t the first Ireach for, they are the first that hubby reaches for and the first ones to go into the diaper bag when Sophia is headed to Grandma’s… especially this diaper, since it has the Aplix closure.  It’s nice to get this diaper back in the wetbag and not have to take out dirty inserts or do anything, other than dump it in the pail or washer!

Greenie Beanie Bottoms wants to give one lucky So Easy Being Green reader a Drybees AIO of their own {choice of in-stock color and size}!  This prize will be included in the Go Green: Baby Prize Package!

How We Chose Moreaya.

So, I guess you could say we went against the grain.  Most of you agreed that Cordelia was your favorite name, and honestly, it had always been on my mind to use if I ever had a girl.

But, we chose Moreaya and I want to share with you why!

We were driving down the road a few weeks ago and randomly saying Baby Names aloud.  We were being a bit silly and Rob said, “Bora Bora.  Tahiti.”  Why would he say that?  Well, he’s crazy and because that’s where we went on our Honeymoon {almost 3 years ago!}.

That’s right, we went on the most spectacular 9 night Honeymoon that I could have ever imagined in my wildest dreams.  It was worth every penny, but it sure would be nice to have all those pennies back!  We had a very small, intimate wedding to save money because we both love to travel and decided we would rather share our wedding with our closest family and friends and make real memories during our Honeymoon… a once in a lifetime travel experience!

So, when Rob said those 2 islands, I called out, “Moorea”.  It was the 3rd island that we visited… and actually our favorite of the 3, although Bora Bora is more well known.  When I said it out loud, we both made a face… like, “Really?”  It actually sounded good when we repeated it a couple of times.  But, I knew from our own experience that the spelling is super hard to understand and pronounce.  It doesn’t look at all the way it’s spelled.  Correct pronunciation is “More-ay-uh”.

After talking, discussing, and saying the names over and over, we decided we wanted our daughter to be unique and have a name that reminded us of the most beautiful places we’ve ever visited… one of the most beautiful places in the world.  With help from a dear blogging friend, we chose the spelling “Moreaya”.  It seems a bit easier to pronounce, is most closely related to the original spelling, and has “Rea” in the spelling, which will most likely be what we call her as a nickname.

So, I’d love to share a few pictures of this beautiful place with you, that inspired the name of our second lovely daughter who we can’t wait to meet in January!

I only hope that we’ll have the opportunity to go back one day… and wouldn’t it be lovely to share the experience with our 2 girls!?

Go Green: Home Sponsor Spotlight: SavvyRest

  So you all know that I’m pregnant.  With pregnancy comes… lack of sleep, or at least it does in my case.  When I find a product that helps me sleep, while pregnant, well… WOW!  I just have to share it with all of you!

This is the case with my new Savvy Rest Organic Wool Pillow!  I was so excited to not only find an organic option to lay my head on, but one that also promotes coolness during this hot nights we’ve been having in east Tennessee!  How does a pillow promote coolness?  Well, I’m so glad you asked!

If you sleep hot, you’ll appreciate how this pillow’s organic wool fill helps stabilize your temperature.  Wool fiber is a natural insulator {from heat or cold} and improves air flow.  Wool also promotes moisture evaporation for drier, cooler comfort.

Now I know how Sophia sleeps so well in her wool covers!  This pillow seems like it was made just for me.  I am always worried to get a new pillow… “Will it be too firm?  Too soft?  Will it wear out quickly?”  My Savvy Rest Organic Wool Pillow came and I tested it out right away… during a little snooze with Sophia at nap time.  I was delighted to see that it’s firm enough to not let me neck just sink into the pillow, but soft enough to give way to the weight of my head.  I love to flip it over in the middle of the night and I can really feel a coolness radiating through the pillow!

Now, what’s the only thing missing?  An awesome natural mattress to go along with my new pillow!  That’s our next investment… and hopefully it will only continue the great sleep that I’ve been getting thanks to my pillow! You can connect with this great company through their website or Savvy Rest on Facebook!

Savvy Rest wants to give one lucky So Easy Being Green reader their own Organic Wool Pillow {RV: $89!}!  This prize will be included in the Go Green: Home Prize Package!

Go Green: Home Sponsor Spotlight: Pomme Wellness {Shaklee}

I‘ve not been shy about my love for finding Shaklee.  When I connected with a bloggy friend almost a year ago {crazy how this year has flown!}, I never knew that she would change my life.  Well, that might be a bit drastic, but in all honesty, Shaklee has changed the way that I view “cleaning” and my household’s health in that area.  I used to be under the impression that bleach smelled clean, as well as those lovely nose-burning fumes from the Lysol can.  {Maybe this is from years of working in child care?}  Oh, how I wish I could share this message, that Kristina told me during that first Shaklee convo, that “Clean is actually the absence of smell!“  Makes sense, but it does take some getting used to and re-training our brains.

So, let’s get to Pomme Wellness.  Kristina has created a Mom-run Shaklee business with her sister and she’s so excited to spread the great news of Shaklee.  Although, when it comes to what I’ve shared, you might think Shaklee is only in the “cleaner” business, but it’s so not true.  Although I’ve only personally used the Home products, Shaklee also has a Beauty, Healthy Weight and Healthy Nutrition lines of products.

I took advantage of a great opportunity a few months back and was able to get a whole Shaklee Cleaning Kit.  I’ve used the Basic H {which is the mother of all cleaners… use it for Windows, Multi-Surface, and as a De-Greaser}, the Laundry Detergent, the Dish Soap, and the Cleaning Cloths.  So, why do I love these products?  Because they are so incredibly eco-friendly and green, in every sense of the words!  Not only are these products free from all of the hazardous chemicals that you’ll find in so many of your everyday household cleaners, but they’re packed as Concentrates.  What does that mean?  Well, for a regular size bottle of Basic H, in a 16 oz bottle, which is what you’re average cleaner is, you can actually make 48 gallons of the cleaner, when it’s mixed with water!  No more buying cleaners from the store all of the time, disposing of the plastic bottles… you have one bottle that will last you a very long time!

Lastly, Pomme Wellness is running a great program right now for you to learn about Shaklee and try the products for free!  Yes, free!  Sign up to view 6 of their webinars and when you’re finished viewing them all, they’re going to give you a $25 Shaklee credit!  {I’ve already signed up… OF COURSE!}

Pomme Wellness wants to give one lucky So Easy Being Green reader a Shaklee Cleaning Sample Kit!  This prize will be included in the Go Green: Home Prize Package!  In this Kit, you’ll receive a Basic H sample, which is enough to mix one bottle of general, degreaser, and window cleaners; three spray bottles; and two microfiber cleaning cloths!

Go Green: Home Sponsor Spotlight: Eco Home Store

I know everyone is excited to see what I have in store for you in the Go Green Giveaway Event and my first Sponsor will not disappoint you!  I connected with the Eco Home Store about a month ago when they were holding their Back To School Giveaway Event.  I was really impressed with the products that they carried online and the Customer Service that I dealt with was amazing!  I was so happy when they wanted to jump aboard this Event!

This website was “birthed” by two working moms (who are also sisters) who saw a need for an online solution that could be a one-stop shop, for consumers like themselves, to find affordable eco-friendly products that could be used in the home.

So, what can you find at the Eco Home Store? A better question may be, “What won’t you find?”  The site is so easily laid out, with easy to read and understand Categories, from Kitchen to Personal Care to Pets, and is by far, one of the easiest to navigate online stores around.  Here’s just a sampling of what you’ll find when you visit…

 I received the Jute Messenger Bag from Eco Home Store.  I chose the Natural bag, pictured on the right.  I planned to use this bag to carry our laptop and books, but my sweet hubby has different plans now!  As soon as the bag came in the mail he declared it his and has been using it to tote his Study Books back and forth from work.

This Jute Messenger Bag by Buffalo Natur is made of 100% jute fiber and 100% cotton trimming, making it 100% biodegradable and recyclable. The side pockets are perfect for storing your cell phone, while CDs, pens and more can be safely tucked away in the inside pockets. Fabrics made of jute fibers are carbon-dioxide neutral and naturally decomposable. Jute fibers also have exceptional insulating properties, low thermal conductivity, and antistatic characteristics. These properties are also why jute is one of the most environment-friendly fibers that can be used in high performance technical textiles.

It has plenty of room to carry just about anything you need and it’s very green, indeed… even if we did pick the Beige color!

The Eco Home Store wants to give one lucky So Easy Being Green reader a $25 GC to their store!  This prize will be included in the Go Green: Home Prize Package!

Organize, Shmorganize.

I know, that’s what most Moms think about organizing their child’s room… especially a little toddler who’s as active as Sophia!  I’ve actually spent all morning cleaning: dusting, cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms, vacuuming, and steam mopping.  Miraculously, I didn’t have that many toys to pick up before I was done and it’s even stayed semi-picked up since I’ve finished.

We’ve really tried to show Sophia how to clean up when she’s finished playing with toys and I’ll say it’s slowly sinking in… not completely, but slowly.  I’d love to share some of my tips for how to organize your house, especially your child’s bedroom or toy room, to help you stay a bit more sane when it comes to cleaning!

  • Children mimic behaviors.  Obviously we all know this.  So, set a great example of picking up your stuff when you’re finished!  I always try to make a point of saying that I’m cleaning up my items when I am, so she sees that Mommy does it too!
  • Sing a ‘clean-up’ song.  Ours came from a Barney tune that I used to sing with the daycare kids… “Clean up, clean up.  Everybody, everywhere.  Clean up, clean up.  Everybody do their share.”  It makes cleaning a bit more fun for Sophia!
  • Make a place for everything and don’t constantly change it’s place.  I love having places for things, but I am guilty of going through and recognizing that this toy would fit better in this space.  It just confuses her and makes it a bit more challenging for her to re-learn where certain toys go, or where they are when she’s looking for them.
  • Label your shelves, bins, and baskets!  This is totally a daycare thing… but it’s a great way to teach your child to organize their toys and start to recognize words and letters.  Along with the word “Blocks”, put a picture of blocks that you can cut out of a magazine.  Now, there’s no way that they won’t realize that their blocks belong in that bin!
  • Baskets, baskets, baskets!  Baskets are a Momma’s best friend!  We love to use baskets that aren’t labeled for “Waiting For a Home” items.  This is easy for me to clean up and not so overwhelming when I see 4-5 different toys in the floor that all go to different rooms or places.  I’ll stick them in one of these baskets and go back and put them in their place when I have a bit more time later.
  • I also love to use the Over-the-Door shoe holders to hold not only shoes, but smaller toys.  They can also be labeled with tape!
  • Get personalized storage for certain toys.  Maybe you’ve seen Sophia’s lovely Toy Car Roll!  It holds 6 of her cars and is a great way for her to have a few cars down that she can play with and easily put back in their pockets.  {Yes, my daughter loves cars… thanks to her Daddy and Papaw!}
  • Purchase toys that you know will be easily stored.  Sounds silly, but I really pay attention to the items that we buy Sophia.  You know how I said Sophia loves cars?  Well, the new Hot Wheels Wheel Trax may just be going on her Christmas List this year.  It’s a great new system that actually uses wall space, instead of floor space, for car play!
  • Don’t stress!  Sophia can tell if I’m getting overwhelmed with the mess and it stresses her out as well.  If I try to make her pick her toys up… it usually doesn’t happen, but she loves to “help” Momma!

How do you keep your child’s room and toys organized?

I wrote this blog post while participating in the SocialMoms and Hot Wheels® blogging program, for a gift card worth $40. For more information on how you can participate, click here.

Novica {giveaway!}

When I was contacted by Novica to perform a Review of my choice of products, I was excited!  I had never heard of this site before that time and I couldn’t wait to check it out.  However, once I got there, I was overwhelmed!  How would I ever choose what I wanted!?!  That’s a good problem, in case you didn’t realize it!

We want to give artists and artisans around the world a global platform to express their true artistic talents and to spur their creativity. And, we want to provide you with access to unique, hard-to-find items at great values that only the Internet infrastructure can allow.
At the deepest essence of our philosophy, we want to create a bridge between you and the many talented artisans across the globe.
We want you to know about who you’re buying from. We want you to feel that attachment to the product and to the hands that created it.
In the spirit of the Internet, let us bring you together.
NOVICA. The World is Your Market.

The website is super easy to navigate and I found their Categories extremely well organized and cross-referenced.  I decided to choose a couple of items that I would never normally buy, a little bit of a splurge for myself!

I chose a beautiful Silk Baltik Shawl from their line of Women Accessories.  This beauty is something that I would probably never purchase for myself in a store, simply because I don’t think I could pull it off… you know those fabulous women in shawls?  Yeah, I’m not one of them.  But I’m going to rock this shawl!  You just wait!  This shawl came all the way from the artist in Bali and Java!

My second item also came from the accessories offered by Novica.  A lovely pair of citrine and amethyst dangle earrings, called Confetti Blue.  These earrings are so lovely in person… even more lovely than the picture, if you can believe it!  The earrings were designed by a lovely Thailand artist and shipped straight from that country.

Along with the lovely accessories for women, Novica has a great line of mens accessories including mens scarves and cufflinks… perfect items for that sweet guy in your life that’s so hard to buy for, with Christmas right around the corner!

I love the idea of Novica’s site and the way that they are bringing these artists around the globe in to our homes!  You might think that since the items are shipping from all areas of the world, it would take a long time to receive your order, but that’s certainly not the case!  Novica has a great shipping system and I received both of my items, at the same time, in only 7 days!  The quality of items that Novica has to offer are outstanding.  I was really blown away by the quality of both my earrings and shawl!  They also have a feature full of Eco-Friendly Green Treasures, including items that have been Recycled & Reclaimed!

Novica also has a great new Consultant program called Novica Live.

Want to make a difference in the world AND enjoy a rewarding career? As a NOVICA Live Home Party Consultant, you can take control of your life and work on your own terms, while bringing fashionable fair trade, handcrafted treasures direct to customers through our unique home parties.
Become the authority on beautiful artisan-crafted jewelry, scarves, shawls, accessories and gifts, as you take the reins on your fresh new career. With a friendly team, fabulous products and a worthy cause, the sky is the limit!

If you’re looking for a way to share your love for artists around the world, their products and make a nice income without leaving the comfort of your home, I really recommend looking into this program!  I have word that anyone that becomes a Director in this program over the next year will get to go to Bali next year!

Buy It:  You can purchase a huge variety of items on the Novica website.  The two items that I reviewed, the Confetti Blue earrings retail for $13.99 and the Silk Shawl retails for $31.99 on the website.

Win It:  One lucky So Easy Being Green reader is going to win a $25 GC to use on whatever they choose at Novica!!!
