Eucalan Wool Wash Giveaway

It’s here!  The day that some of you have been waiting for… the day where you think you’ll say, “See, I don’t have the extra time to hand wash wool everyday.  As a Mom, I already have enough to worry about and you want me to take more time to do all of that?!  I’ll just ruin my expensive wool by doing something wrong.”

Guess what?!  You aren’t going to say any of those things after reading today’s post.  You are going to be inspired by the easiness of using the Wool Wash by Eucalan.  You are going to be motivated by me… by telling you caring for Wool is seriously… so EASY!

First, let me say.  We are NOT addressing lanolizing your wool today (that will come on Tuesday, I promise!).  Today, we are simply talking about how to care for your wool before lanolizing… how to wash it.  Do you want to know the best part?  You don’t have to wash your wool everyday like you do other covers, such as PUL.  Wool has such great properties that it is self-cleaning.
Let me let Vilate from Nifty Nappy explain…

Wool fiber is what is so great for cloth diapering. It is the wool fiber, not the lanolin that will change the urine to salt water. This process is called salinization. When the woolie is wet it will smell pretty bad. Just hang it out to dry though, and let it do it’s magic! Then when the wool cover dries it will dry clean with a bit of a salt reside. It will also “magically” smell clean again. After this process has occurred a bunch of times the build-up of salt gets to be too much and then the process doesn’t work anymore. When this happens your woolie will start to smell even when it is dry. This is when it is time to wash your woolie and re-lanolize. Depending on how many woolies you have and how much use they get, you usually only have to wash them every three or four weeks.

Although it won’t be everyday, you will have to wash your wool when it gets dirty or a bit too stinky!  Since I’m new to using wool, I haven’t tried every wool wash on the market, but… I don’t need to.  I found one that works wonders for me, is quite green, and I love it!

I was happy to get the chance to review Eucalan wool wash during this event and be able to spotlight and introduce you to such a great company!  When you get a little down time, you really should read how this company got it’s start… so interesting!  I was sent a great package of Eucalan goodies, including a bottle of their Lavender and Natural No Rinse Delicate Wash, and lots of other On-the-Go goodies.

Why did I call Eucalan green?  It’s because of the great No Rinse formula!
In addition to its ecological value [saving time, money, and energy from not having to rinse], the practical significance of Eucalan is that it can be used in both front and top-loading washing machines as well as in a basin for hand-washing.  And with its unique ‘no-rinse’ benefit, Eucalan is the perfect travel companion, making it simple to wash delicates in away-from-home accommodation and hotels. In addition to saving time, water and energy due to not rinsing!

Ok, so now that you know what Eucalan is and does, let me tell you how I wash my wool.

  • Fill a bowl full of lukewarm water.
  • Wet your woolies.
  • Add a tsp of Eucalan to your bowl of water.
  • Mix around a bit and let soak for at least 15 minutes.
  • I gently wring out my woolies.  You can choose to wring out within a towel, but I just gently roll up in my hand.

That’s it!  Your woolies are washed.  Next is the lanolization process (which we’ll cover on Tuesday) and you’re going to be suprised to hear that it’s JUST as easy as the washing process.  Remember… you don’t have to do this all the time.  I have only washed a couple of mine the first intial wash.  It all depends on how many wool covers/soakers/skirties/longies you have in your rotation!

Why I Love Eucalan Wool Wash:  It’s green, easy, and saves me time!  My wool items are clean and it’s nice to know that it can be used in washing machines as well!

Buy It:  You can buy a 16.9 oz bottle of Eucalan No Rinse Delicate Wash on their website for $11.00 or find a local retailer here.
