Source: Google ImagesBefore Rob and I got married in 2008, we attended pre-marital counseling with the Minister who was performing our ceremony.  We did this for two reasons: {1} The state of Tennessee gives you a $60 discount off the cost of your marriage license if you participate in counseling and {2} Our officiant encouraged us to.  I'm so glad that we did because it has helped us in our marriage, in the beginning and even now.  We often refer to topics that arose during the sessions and have better communication skills because of that time. One of the main things that we discussed during the session was Church.  We are both Christians, but had not been actively going/participating in any church or fellowship settings.  I was raised a Southern Baptist {quite the majority here in Northeastern Tennessee} and … [Read more...]

Nifty Nappy Sheep-in-a-Jar Review

I received my jar of Nifty Nappy's Sheep-in-a-Jar Lanolizing Potion #9 in the mail this weekend!  I was super excited to see how it would differ from using just plain Lanolin when lanolzing our Woolies.  As I said in the Lanolizing blog post, I normally use a small, pea-sized amount of Lansinoh lanolin to lanolize my wool.  I put a bowl of water (about a cup) in the microwave and add the lanolin so that it will mix with the water.  This works, obviously, as I've been using wool for a couple of months now and had no issues with it leaking.I will say, though, that sometimes the Lansinoh lanolin doesn't melt well and it's just a bit annoying to get on your fingers.  So, I was curious to see how the Nifty Nappy potion would differ.  Here's my experience with the Potion in pictures:I heated a small bowl of … [Read more...]

Gardening, take 1.

One of the ways that my family has chosen a green-er lifestyle is by planting our own veggies.  No, we don't live on a farm, but we do plant enough to sustain our family for the summer and are even able to can and freeze some veggies for the winter! The first step to our garden is planting the seeds.  Since it's still a bit cold here in Northeast Tennessee, we always start our seeds indoors.  You don't have to, but it gives us the opportunity to harvest sooner and when late Spring, early Summer hits... I covet those fresh, ripe, juicy homegrown tomatoes!Last weekend we had a few days of warmth, so I gave Sophia a little lesson on planting seeds.  She enjoyed snack while I got dirty. We planted Broccoli (new for us this year, we'll see how it goes), Green Peppers, Jalapeno Peppers, Beefmaster Tomatoes (for … [Read more...]

It's not over yet!  Today, I'm bringing you the last fitted diaper giveaway courtesy of Bootyful Baby Boutique! First, I want to introduce you to Ashley, the WAHM behind BBB."My first daughter was born in September of 2007. After trying dozens of other brands/styles for eight months, I still felt like none of them were just right. I decided there had to be a way … [Read more...]

How to Prep Your Wool (and a Giveaway!)

It's Tuesday and as promised, we are discussing Wool Prep.  I promise you're going to say at the end of this post... It really is So Easy Being Green Prepping Wool!As I mentioned when Out Like a Lamb began, one of my number one concerns was ruining wool (after paying what seems like a high price) by prepping it incorrectly.  I didn't know what "lanolizing" meant.  I didn't know how in the world to do it.  I didn't know how long it was going to take to add in this extra step to cloth diapering.  Most importantly, I didn't know why you had to do it or how it works.  But... now I do and I want to share all of that information with you (in case some of you don't already know!).When I began to research Wool, I often came across posts by Vilate from Nifty Nappy.  I've already quoted her a few times during the … [Read more...]

Green Scene Diapers Giveaway!

****EDIT {5/16/2012}**** It saddens me to say that this Sponsor never fulfilled a giveaway that I promoted in January of 2012.  Although these are some of my favorite fitted diapers, I can no longer endorse a Sponsor that doesn't follow through with promised Customer Service. *********** As we're nearing the end of the Out Like a Lamb  event, I feel like I've touched on just about every subject that kept me from wool and fitteds for so long.  Well, other than the lanolizing post (coming tomorrow!). Today, we're talking fitteds again and I'm going to introduce you to a WAHM that you will have wished you had found sooner!  Melisa is the amazing Mama behind Green Scene Diapers.  I consider myself lucky to happen across her Facebook page and see her lovely fitted diapers and thought they would make a great addition to the Out … [Read more...]

CCBaby Wool Giveaway

As I've said in a couple posts during the Out Like a Lamb event, I have grown to love our wool so much that I have even started reaching for my new fitteds and wool covers during the day.  You can obviously use any of them during the day (and I do), but do you want to see my favorite wool to put on Miss Sophia for day/play time? How cute is this skirtie?!?  It comes from a WAHM run business called, CCBaby.  You may have heard of Janna and her woolies as they have quite a popular Facebook page.  She has an amazing assortment of all kinds of upcycled wool items (including longies, snap covers, shorties and the cute skirties!), leg warmers, ponchos, baby legs, wipes, scarves and much more!  Sophia's colorful, upcycled Scrappy Skirtie fits her really well.  I asked Janna to keep the length a bit longer to … [Read more...]
